Some recruiting notes here before we get to the main course that we know you're all here for:
- In case you missed it, we caught up with Missouri's 2024 commitment Xavier Atkins earlier this week, who went in-depth on his decision. Obviously, new defensive coordinator Blake Baker is a huge reason Atkins went ahead and made the pledge with Missouri. The rising prospect is hoping to visit Columbia this spring or summer and interact with the rest of the coaching staff. As he stated in his commitment tweet, he will also take visits to other schools as well and other programs will jump in with offers after Atkins' monster season where he led the state of Louisiana with 219 tackles. Still a long way to go here.
- Rivals.com national analyst Clint Cosgrove caught up with 2024 wide receiver target Ryan Wingo this past week for a recruiting update. Wingo mentions wanting to visit Texas A&M this spring and visit numerous other places throughout the summer. Obviously, he's been to Missouri quite a few times already, so the Tigers have been a fixture early on in his recruiting process. The Aggies are a recent offer for the 2024 prospect along with West Virginia, Kansas, Michigan State, Oregon, and Nebraska.
- Ryan Wright, Rivals.com national analyst, got the latest from 2023 target Samuel M'Pemba where the newly-minted five-star said he intends to visit Notre Dame and Michigan during the spring with Florida and Missouri possibly getting return visits as well. In terms of taking officials, M'Pemba says that's something he might put off until the fall.
- Kenwood (Ill.) 2023 linebacker K'Vion Thunderbird has seen his recruiting process heat up in recent weeks as Missouri is one of the schools that has jumped in with an offer. The three-star talent told Rivals.com national analyst Ryan Wright that he's looking to visit Missouri "soon." Tigers' ST coordinator and tight ends coach Erik Link is heading up his recruiting process.
- Newly offered in-state WR Joshua Manning is planning a return visit to Missouri on March 12th, depending on his current basketball schedule. The four-star prospect out of Lee's Summit was at Mizzou last summer for a 7-on-7 tournament. Tigers WR coach Jacob Peeler has been in contact with Manning for the past month and recently did a FaceTime chat with him and showed him the new facilities. Nebraska, K-State, Washington, Minnesota, and Northwestern are other schools he'd like to visit as well.
- Also, newly offered safety Winston Berglund out of Carmel (Ind.) told us that he plans to visit Missouri sometime this spring. The 6-foot-2, 208-pound prospect is also planning to take trips to Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Northwestern, Michigan, and Indiana as well.
- We checked again yesterday and there's just not really an update on the situation with Auburn transfer Marquis Robinson. Maybe he ends up at Mizzou. Maybe he stays at Auburn. Maybe he goes somewhere else. Maybe he's not a real person like Ed Chang and just never plays anywhere. Maybe he's playing defensive tackle at spring practice tomorrow (we certainly don't think so, but at this point, it's hard to say anything would be a surprise). If there are developments, we'll pass them on, but at this point, we really don't have any.
