FOOTBALL RECRUITING

Missouri hosted its first junior day event of the new year last weekend that featured a large portion of their in-state targets in the 2020 class. Thursday night appeared to be the night that St. Louis prospects all tweeted out their junior day pictures. We've posted a lot of those on the board.

So far, we've gotten feedback from the following targets, we'll have more in-depth updates on most throughout the weekend:

- We posted an update with Cook earlier this week, but overall, nothing has changed with him as he's all in with the Tigers and told us he is actively recruiting Drake Heismeyer, Jay Maclin, Jordan Johnson, and Mookie Cooper.

- When we talked to Maclin post visit, he refers to the Missouri coaches staff as "family." The Kirkwood product is still planning to take his time with his recruiting process and will visit Iowa, Kentucky, Indiana. He's planning to make a decision, or at least make a public decision in September.

- Heismeyer spent a lot of one-on-one time with Brad Davis during his visit and the staff is stressing how he can be a key part to their offense. Missouri appears to be in a good spot, but more schools are getting involved, including Michigan State and Purdue most recently.

- Logan-Redding admitted that contact had been limited with the staff during the season, but said it was nice to hit the refresh button during his visit. He's really impressed with the background of Brick Haley and the approach he has with his players. There is a lot of Notre Dame talk surround the local Rock Bridge product, but expect Missouri to be a very strong contender as well.

- Originally, when Missouri offer Billingsley last summer, the coaching staff liked him on both sides of the ball at offensive tackle and defensive end. After his junior day visit, Billingsley told us that Missouri is now recruiting him strictly at defensive end which is the position he prefers to play. Visits to Alabama and LSU are next on his agenda.

We'll have full stories on Heismeyer, Maclin, Logan-Redding, and Billingsley throughout the weekend and into next week.

*Next year looks like it will probably be a little bit smaller class. There are 18 seniors coming off the books as of now (we'd expect at least 2-3 of those to actually probably not be on the roster this year, which would knock the number down to 15). You add in potential scholarship restrictions and we'd put an early forecast of about a 20-man signing class next year. But that's just our early guess.

BASKETBALL RECRUITING

- Mitchell will have a story on Caleb Love later today.

As part of that story, Love plans to take a few more visits before the end of the basketball season. He specifically mentioned Indiana, Virginia and Texas. He said that he doesn't have another trip planned to Mizzou right now, but he's been here plenty and can see it at pretty much any point in time, so there's no reason to panic about him not coming to campus.

- Mitchell also spoke to Cam'Ron Fletcher in a story yesterday and will have one on Mario McKinney over the weekend.

FOOTBALL NEWS

- Not a ton to report here. As we posted earlier this week, Micah Wilson is moving to wide receiver. Alex Schiffer wrote that A.J. Ofodile is going to coach tight ends and Garrick McGee will handle wide receivers, which we've expected for a while.

- Apparently Barry Odom said at the reception in St. Louis last night that new assistant David Gibbs would coach cornerbacks, while Ryan Walters is handling safeties and outside linebackers. What that really means is that Walters is coaching safeties and the nickel position where Brandon Lee/Ronnell Perkins played last year. So it's really only three players. That means Vernon Hargreaves will coach the other linebackers. A Missouri spokesman confirmed this lineup this morning.

So here is what the staff will look like:

OC/QB-Derek Dooley
RB-Cornell Ford
WR-Garrick McGee
TE-A.J. Ofodile
OL-Brad Davis
DL-Brick Haley
ILB-Vernon Hargreaves
CB-David Gibbs
DC/OLB/S-Ryan Walters
ST-Andy Hill

-As an aside, I'm told Brick Haley was offered a position to coach defensive line at Arkansas, but he's turned it down and is staying in Columbia.

-This tends to be a little bit slower time of year for recruiting, but there will still be activity and we will still keep you up to date on it.
