-Let's start with some quick 2024 notes. Missouri is not hosting any official visitors this weekend. That means the transfer activity for the time being is basically done. They're waiting on a decision from Zion Young. There were hopes he would announce a decision early this week. That has not yet happened. The pessimists will take that to mean he is not going to come to Missouri. It's possible that's accurate, but sources are still optimistic on this one (and it can't hurt that Florida State just got slapped by the NCAA and Mike Norvell is one of two or three rumored candidates for the Alabama job). Why a decision hasn't come yet, we don't really know. We've told you all along these transfer recruitments are largely negotiations and can turn on a dime. Sometimes they wrap up pretty quickly, sometimes they stretch out. This one has stretched out. If Young is going to enroll somewhere next week (and we'd assume that's the goal), a decision needs to come before the next Chamber.
-The other relevant 2024 note is that Missouri has moved on from Alabama running back J'Marion Burnette. His recruitment was always weird. He was committed to Auburn and then dropped. He seemed all in on Missouri, but nobody else really seemed to be pursuing him. Missouri then hit the pause button. He was going to visit Arkansas, then didn't. We don't really know the particulars here, but at this point, it doesn't seem like Burnette has any real Power Five options. Mizzou has five running backs on the roster and feels good with its current group.
The upshot is outside of Young, we think the 2024 class is more or less complete until the spring transfer window opens and everyone knows what holes need to be filled and who's available. The only thing that could change that is portal entries from Alabama or any other school where there's a coaching change.
-We are told there will be a couple of unofficial visitors on campus this weekend. Four-star offensive tackle Jack Lange is supposed to be on campus. He's visited before and it seems Mizzou is in a pretty good position. Don't know if we'd put him on commit watch quite yet because it is early, but it's a good sign he's going to be in town again. We are told Eureka teammate Blake Ashby will be in town with Lange. He was an all-conference TE/DE this year. Not sure what level of prospect he is at this time.
- Missouri will host its first big Jr. Day event of the year on January 20th and we've added a few more names to the expected visitor list throughout this week. Of course, there will be more and we'll have a more complete list for next week's Chamber.
Here are the confirmations we've received so far....
Brennen Ward, QB - visited for the Florida game in November and picked up an offer. A return visit in that short of a timeframe is probably something to keep an eye on.
Jamarion Morrow, RB - Missouri offered nearly a year ago. Ole Miss, Alabama, Auburn, Miami, North Carolina, and Louisville are some other notable offers.
Joakim Dodson, WR - visited for the LSU game in October, teammate of 2024 QB signee Aidan Glover.
Dillon Alfred, WR - Has been a frequent visitor to Auburn throughout 2023. Also has notable offers from Ole Miss, Miss. State, Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Penn State.
Daeden Hopkins, DE - in-state target that visited Missouri for the K-State game. Picked up an offer from the Tigers during the fall. Kansas, K-State, Iowa State, and Cincy are other notable offers.
Coleman Lewis, LB - The Georgia native visit Missouri in November for the Florida game and will be back in CoMo later this month. He's held an offer from Missouri since August.
Will Tompkins, OL - No Mizzou offer yet, but holds notable offers from Iowa State, Kansas, K-State, Minnesota, Penn State, Tennessee, Nebraska, Duke, and Illinois.
A couple of other prospects who told us they plan to visit Missouri at some point this spring include four-star CB Mason Alexander, who visited CoMo for the Tigers game against LSU during the season and has the Tigers in his Top 10. Four-star DE Grayshaun Swain told us he also plans to visit Missouri sometime this spring, he picked up an offer from the Tigers back in October.
Four-star, in-state OL Jack Lange will be visiting Notre Dame on Jan. 20th for their Jr. Day, but he is planning to return to Missouri sometime this spring. Trips to Nebraska, Washington, and Ole Miss are also expected as well.
Three-star DE Caleb Smith also told us he was planning to return to Missouri on Jan. 20th, but had to reschedule. He is planning to return at some point in the spring. He was on campus back in November for the Tennessee win.
