BASKETBALL RECRUITING

Let's start on the hoops front (if we lead with news that is going to disappoint you guys, then your mood can only improve as you go along).

There was speculation on the board that Christopher was going to be taking an official visit to Mizzou next weekend. That is not the case. Josh's dad told @mitchell4d last night that they won't be in CoMo next weekend. The family still wants to take another official visit to Mizzou but it likely will not happen until after the season.

This is honestly not a surprise. Coaching staffs gear their official visits to show off what they feel accentuates the best parts of their program. The truth is, right now, game day and the atmosphere in a half full Mizzou Arena, isn't it. This isn't meant to cast any blame or start an attendance war, simply pointing out that it's better for Mizzou to host their top targets in the off-season when they can give the prospect and family more one-on-one attention, sell the staff, the current players and the vibe around the team instead of trying to sell them on a game day atmosphere that isn't gong to compare to some of the other places they're likely to visit. So, while I'm sure everyone here would love to get Christopher on campus ASAP, it's honestly probably better for Mizzou's chances if the trip doesn't happen for a few weeks.

FOOTBALL RECRUITING

TWO COMMIT THURSDAY

A big day in Missouri recruiting on Thursday as the Tigers picked up two commitments.

Fort Worth Christian (Tex.) wide receiver Chance Luper became the 14th commitment for the Tigers in the 2020 recruiting class while Memphis University School (Tenn.) tight end Gavin McKay became the second verbal pledge in the 2021 class.

In case you missed our coverage of both, here are the links below:

OFFICIAL VISITORS

Unlike Edwards' previous five-day commitment stint, the three-star prospect has been all-in with the Tigers since re-committing earlier this month.

Edwards has been in the ear with fellow Magnolia State product Dylan Spencer. The offensive line product is coming off official visits to Tennessee and Mississippi State the previous two weekends. Missouri will get the last visit before signing day and his previous relationship with new offensive line coach Marcus Johnson could be a huge factor.

Watkins has a top three that includes West Virginia, Arizona, and Missouri. The three star prospect took an official to West Virginia back in December and is coming off one to Arizona this past weekend. Defensive line coach Brick Haley has been in contact with the Alabama product for over a month now and the Tigers get the last presentation.

OTHER TARGET NOTES

- Draine was suppose to visit Florida State this upcoming weekend, that won't happen now and it doesn't he's done with visits. If that's the case, the three-star prospect is coming off officials to Nebraska and Missouri the last two weekends and will choose between the two.

- We told you on Wednesday night that Missouri is still showing interest in the former in-state commitment. After cancelling his Florida State visit this weekend, St. John told us he is at least "thinking about" visiting Missouri this this weekend. As of this morning, it doesn't appear that will happen but we'll keep you updated if the situation changes. Arkansas appears to be in the driver's seat at the moment.

- Rakestraw will cap off his official visit schedule with Texas this weekend. He will choose between Alabama, Texas, and Missouri on signing day. Missouri has positioned themselves well and appears to be alive in the fight, but Rakestraw is one of the hottest prospects in the country and it won't be easy. The Tigers are putting on the full court press, sending most of the defensive staff along with Eli Drinkwitz on an in-home visit last night.

- It appears Mizzou is interested in adding a long snapper to the 2020 class. That's a little bit surprising given the limited number of spots left in the class, but Drinkwitz hasn't been shy about stressing special teams. The other thing to remember here is that sometimes prospects tweet about offers that are actually preferred walk-on offers. We are not saying that's the case with either of these, just reminding you that it is always a possibility until we verify a full scholarship offer.
