The Chamber doesn't have time to be funny. It plans to pour one out later today for the beat writers in the fine city of Denver who are now proud subscribers to the sports world's most wild soap opera. So on to recruiting, a daytime Emmy worthy saga of its own most times.
FOOTBALL RECRUITING
- Caught up with the local Rock Bridge safety target, who visited Missouri again a couple of weekends ago. The Tigers seem to be in good shape right now and Missouri is the only school he's been able to visit so far due to his schedule. He's planning to commit on July 20th and says he's wanting to visit Iowa and Iowa State between now and then. There was no mention of Michigan State as a potential visit destination. So, for now, it sounds like a three team race and our sources indicate Missouri is in the driver's seat.
- Missouri was the first power five school to offer the three-star prospect earlier in the spring and that will carry a lot of weight with Nance throughout his recruiting process. Him and the coaching staff have remain in constant contact and Nance loved his unofficial visit to Columbia back in the spring. He told me he plans to take an official visit to Missouri in the fall for the Georgia game. Nance recently took an official to TCU, but is saving the rest for the fall. He's visiting Nebraska this weekend and will take a trip to Notre Dame after that.
- The offensive line target visited Missouri this week and had very positive reviews. Teter has talked mostly with Vernon Hargraeves since he's his area recruiter, but Brad Davis left a very good impression on him during his time on campus. Teter has been busy, having taken unofficial visits to Notre Dame, Cal, Virginia - he also plans to visit Arizona and will camp at Auburn this weekend. He intends to commit sometime before his senior season starts.
- Teter also earned an offer from the Commodores after his camp performance yesterday. The Florida product was the most dominant offensive lineman at Vandy yesterday, his quick feet, lateral movement, and strength are his strongest attributes. He definitely has Power Five offensive lineman in his DNA.
We'll have full updates on all the above targets in the next few days...
Sean Williams also covers recruiting for our Vanderbilt site on the Rivals.com network and three Missouri targets were in action at their Elite Camp yesterday in Nashville. Here are his thoughts on each one.
- In terms of size and frame, Okpala was definitely the most imposing prospect in Thursday's camp at Vanderbilt The three-star prospect is very raw and didn't have the most fluid movement going through individual drills, but he showed off his power and quickness off the snap during 1on1's. He still has a lot to learn, but with size like that the potential is through the roof.
- Young was extremely impressive throughout the entire day. He worked out at both defensive end and outside linebacker and flashed his length and speed. I was more impressed with his ability move in open space and cover at the OLB position during 7on7's yesterday. He earned an offer from the Commodores right after camp was over. After seeing him in person, he's definitely worthy of a higher ranking.
- Missouri will not have any official visitors this weekend. They will, however, host three unofficial visitors on Saturday.
Of the three, Massey is probably the most likely to commit this weekend. Missouri would certainly like to lock him up and get him on board. Ferguson seems like a kid who could pull the trigger too, but he has been tough to track down and we aren't 100% sure where his recruitment stands. If one or both of his teammates decide to commit, you can't necessarily rule out a very early commitment from Maclin, but since he's a 2020 kid, it doesn't seem like there would be any rush...and even if he committed, it's so early, it would be tough to say how meaningful it would be. Either way, all three will be on campus this weekend and we'll be paying attention for the news.
-Carr visited Mizzou yesterday after going to Iowa on Wednesday. We've got a message out to him to see how things went (we assume very well). Carr's dad is Cornell Mann, the assistant basketball coach. That can't hurt the Tigers' chances. I asked Carr if that was a big factor in him looking at Missouri. He replied: "Yes." He is not a man of many words over direct message.
He is a guy who could potentially play both sports at the college level. He told us he is thinking about it and "if I want to, I can play both at Missouri."
-Henry is on an official visit to Iowa State this weekend. We're hearing a summer commitment is likely for him and we're still hearing Missouri is the most likely place. He's going to take some visits, but Mizzou remains in very good position.
-Boone was at Minnesota last weekend and is camping at Ohio State this weekend. Missouri is still recruiting him, but it seems like he's likely headed elsewhere. The Tigers would take him if the tide shifted there, but it seems likely the receiver class will be filled by others.
-We'd put Reuben in the same category as Boone. He'll be in Columbus this weekend and has also visited Georgia and Alabama recently. Can't see him ending up a Tiger.

-Speaking of others, let's talk about Marcus Washington. Plenty of discussion about him the last couple days. What is true depends on which side of things the people you're talking to are on. The expectation at Ohio State is that Washington (and Jameson Williams) are going to commit this weekend. No two ways about it, that's what they're expecting in Columbus. But if you talk to people around Mizzou and in the state of Missouri, they don't expect that to be true. The one thing we've been told by multiple people is that Washington isn't the type of kid who's going to get pressured into committing. In fact, some people believe that strategy would even backfire with Washington.
The upshot is this: Missouri still loves its position with Washington. We think he will be committed somewhere by this time next week. Either the OSU people will be right and he'll jump on board there some time this weekend or he'll come out of Columbus uncommitted and we believe if that happens he'll be on Missouri's commitment list pretty soon. You can probably scratch Missouri off completely for Jameson Williams.

Cooper is the last in-state guy we think could be a Tiger by the end of the summer. Oklahoma is big-time competition, but there's some question whether the Sooners would take a commitment from him at this point in time. Missouri would. Particularly if the Tigers grab a couple of these other in-state guys, you could see Cooper jump in by the time his senior season starts.

Telfort's tweet indicates Missouri is in the mix for his commitment. He told us this morning Missouri is no longer recruiting him.
BASKETBALL RECRUITING
Not a whole lot to report here until the coaches get back on the road and such. We were told this week that Kansas is starting to recruit Christian Braun, the younger brother of Mizzou freshman Parker Braun. Missouri's interested, but even with his brother on board, it's going to be a heck of a battle if they want to land Christian. And at this point, there seem to be some other guys that might be a bit higher on the Tigers' list.
The hoops news will pick up in a couple weeks when Mitchell Forde will be in Atlanta for both the Under Armour Finals and Peach Jam. We'll get the latest with all of Missouri's targets during that week.
