FOOTBALL RECRUITING

TRIO OF TARGETS HAVE MIZZOU AMONG TOP GROUP:

- Gentry Williams trimmed his list down the most with Missouri among his Top 6 along with Southern Cal, LSU, Arkansas, Florida, and Oklahoma. Don't think Missouri is in the driver's seat here, but they are clearly in the race. Obviously, Williams has ties to current Missouri wide receiver Javian Hester (same high school) and new defensive backs coach Aaron Fletcher spent the last six seasons at Tulsa, so he has familiarity with the area. Another note on Williams when it comes to Florida, he's very close with former Mizzou assistant Garrick McGhee, who is now on the Gators staff. McGhee attended the same high school as Williams and grew up around his family, so there are very close ties there. We should have a chance to talk to Williams in person next week at his school.

- Daughtry Richardson is a target we profiled right after getting offered by Missouri back in January. He's now done a virtual visit with the staff and the Tigers are in the thick of it for the Miami native. Richardson could cut his list down further soon, but it doesn't appear he's in a hurry to make a decision.

- While Missouri already has two wide receivers committed in J'Marion Wayne and Mekhi Miller, they are obviously still in the market to add more playmakers at the position in 2022. Isaiah Sategna is on the shortlist of wants, along with Luther Burden, Tyler Morris, Reggie Fluerima, Barrion Brown, and Nicholas Anderson. Missouri making the cut for Sategna is a good thing for sure, but it seems the Tigers will have some work to do moving forward.

KEEP AN EYE ON

- We were told from a reliable source on our network that Dawn should be making his college decision in the next couple of weeks with his finalists being Baylor and Missouri. The three-star prospect picked up a Missouri offer back on February 22nd and has already done a virtual visit with the coaching staff. We've reached out to Dawn and we'll have more details on the situation when we get them.

ICYMI

- We caught up with the in-state OL target earlier this week, who told us he's been talking with Missouri's staff a lot since being offered back in January. Offensive line coach Marcus Johnson and head coach Eli Drinkwitz are the two that are primarily involved and all indications are they are making a strong push. Wilson hasn't set foot on Missouri's campus yet, but has done a virtual visit with the staff. The Lebanon native says that Baylor, Arizona State, Virginia Tech, and Kentucky are other schools he hears from a lot.

IN-STATE ALL AMERICANS

A couple of Mizzou in-state targets will be playing in the 2022 All-American Bowl.

Truth be told, Mizzou doesn't appear to have much of a shot of keeping Wesolak in mid-Missouri. Nothing's over till it's over, but early indications are that Wesolak has his sights set elsewhere. With Pride, there's been a recent uptick in talk of Clemson and when national programs come calling, the battle always gets more difficult, but the Tigers should be in this one till the end and should be considered as likely as any program to land him when it comes time for a decision.

OPEN PRACTICE SHOULD BRING A FEW TO TOWN

Missouri is opening its spring practice each of the next three Saturdays. While it gives fans a chance to get a peek at the team, it's also a way to allow recruits an opportunity to get on campus while the NCAA continues to extend the recruiting dead period (it goes through May 31 as of right now). Programs cannot invite players to campus. They cannot suggest they come to the practice. But if it's an event that is open to the public, recruits are included in the public so they can come. They can have no contact with the coaching staff, cannot be on the sidelines or in the facility or get any benefit that isn't afforded to any general member of the public who attends. We know, you're thinking, "Sure, but there are ways around that." There are not. We've been told the SEC is cracking down on every school in the league during the dead period, particularly after what happened at Tennessee in the last few months. Any kid who is on an SEC campus prior to May 31 is going to be scrutinized by the league to make sure that everything is above board. We understand you'll be skeptical about that, but it is our understanding that this is very real and that programs are adhering tightly to the rules to avoid any issues.

Anyway, we've done a lot of checking this week and there are a handful of players we're expecting to be at practice on Saturday

Miller is committed to the Tigers and all in

Whisner is committed and actively recruiting for the Tigers

Of those who are not committed, Missouri is probably in as good of shape with Membau as anyone else on the board. We don't know of a timeline, but from what we hear, we'd consider the Tigers at the top of the list.

The situation here is similar to Membou. We don't know if it will happen soon, but we expect the Tigers to be tough to beat here.

Thompson told us he is thinking about coming to Columbia tomorrow, but hasn't made a final decision yet

Wayne won't be here this Saturday, but may come in on March 13 for that open practice

OTHER UPDATES

We've had a couple of people this week tell us that Missouri feels like it is making progress on keeping Orange in state. He's one we'll make a priority to reach for an update soon.

One person had told us they'd heard Brown would be coming in for the practice this weekend, but there's no truth to that so far as we can tell. Brown has certainly got the attention of Missouri fans with his two most recent tweets

We'd say there's reason for cautious optimism here, but until Brown speaks publicly, it's hard to know exactly where things stand. Is Missouri a favorite or just the team he has put out there on social media the last few days? Tough to know for sure at this point.

BASKETBALL RECRUITING

The Tigers extended a new offer to a 2022 point guard last night

As far as the rest of 2021, it's going to be transfer portal time all offseason. In the next few weeks, we'll get clarity on whether any of the five seniors (plus Xavier Pinson) will return. The staff likely already has a much better feel. It would be stunning if Jeremiah Tilmon returned. It is our strong belief that Pinson is unlikely to return. To be honest, it's probably more likely that no one comes back than it is that multiple players from this group stay. The time to get those answers isn't right now, on the verge of postseason play. The decisions will come out when the players are ready. But the likelihood of basketball players taking advantage of the extra year is lower than it was in football. We'll definitely monitor this situation and try to get answers as soon as Mizzou's season ends, but it's probably smart to operate under the belief that all of these players will move on and adjust accordingly if that changes.
