FOOTBALL RECRUITING

Let's start with some good news to shed some sunshine on all you Eeyores that grace our board on the daily with your pessimistic negativity towards Missouri recruiting, or, anything else for that matter. Cheer up suckas, Mizzou made some cuts this week. We'll start with that, sprinkle in some bad news, and end this segment with intrigue.

- The Tigers are now placed in a heavyweight title tournament with some well-known opponents - Texas, Oregon, Ohio State, Georgia, and Florida State. The winner gets the most sought after offensive prospect in the St. Louis area. At first glance, many will write off Mizzou's chances considering the competition. That would be a mistake. The Tigers have put themselves in very good shape with Washington. We'll catch up with Washington this weekend at the Rivals Camp in Chicago.

- The three-star prospect told EdgyTim.com this week that his current Top 3 consists of Iowa State, West Virginia, and Missouri. Jansey, Jr. just picked up an offer from the Tigers at the beginning of the month.

"It was awesome adding an offer from Missouri. I knew that Missouri was starting to become more interested in me and they made an in school visit three weeks ago. The Missouri coaches said they are impressed with me and I'm starting to build a great relationship with the coaches at Missouri."

Jansey told us he will be in town Tuesday for a visit to Mizzou.

- Another top priority target from the St. Louis area for Missouri made it known that he will be narrowing his schools in the near future. We expect the Tigers to make the cut here. From all indications, Missouri is in excellent position with Henry. However, the battle became tougher this past week as Henry added offers from Alabama and Michigan.

- Moving on to quarterback talk. A commitment is expected today from Missouri QB target KJ Jefferson. The three-star prospect visited Missouri and many other schools earlier this spring. We've heard his likely destination will be Arkansas.

- Another Missouri target that is set to make a commitment towards the end of the month is Temple (Tex.) tight end Jared Wiley, who Nick Krueger recently caught up with about his upcoming decision. Despite Missouri being the first school to offer, it sounds more than likely that Wiley's landing spot is going to be Texas when it's all said and done.

- Going back to the quarterback topic, the good news coming out of Justin Fomby's MVP performance last weekend at the Rivals Camp in Nashville is that he only picked up an offer from Southern so far this week. Zach Calzada picked up notable offers from Purdue and Texas A&M so far this past week.

- Another quarterback prospect that Missouri is keeping a close eye on is Lincoln Way West (Ill.) product Jack Baltz. The coaching staff watched him throw earlier this spring and Baltz told us he will visit Missouri in June to throw again in front of the staff.

"I threw for them earlier in the spring and started to get some interest, so now I am coming to Mizzou to work with the coaches one-on-one June 8th and 9th and get a feel for all of them."

We were told Baltz went to an Elite 11 camp and the coaches there were stunned he didn't have big-time offers yet. Definitely a kid to keep an eye on at the QB position.

- The Rivals 3-Stripe Camp will be in Chicago this weekend, where some of Missouri's major targets from the St. Louis area are expected to participate. Those include Kyren Williams, Jack Buford, Marcus Washington, Shammond Cooper, and Ira Henry. A ton of underclassmen from St. Louis and the state of Missouri are also expected to attend Sunday's camp as well. The road warrior, Sean Williams, will once again be in attendance and provide updates.

It's about to be camp season. Here are the camps we know Mizzou has and we will cover:

Friday, June 1--Pittsburg State.

Saturday, June 2--Lindenwood Mega camp. The Tigers will also do their own session this weekend at Lindenwood I believe.

Friday, June 8--Kansas City.

We'll be at those in addition to Night at the Zou some time in July. If some commitments don't roll in after that, it's time to really start wondering about what's happening. But we expect they will.

BASKETBALL RECRUITING

If you missed it earlier this week, Mizzou extended a late 2018 offer.

Chang had previously released a top three of Ole Miss, San Diego State and Nebraska. The Huskers offered him yesterday. He's from Nebraska.

It's tough to really guess at Missouri's chances of wriggling into that top group because Chang hasn't gotten back to us so far this week. Just on the surface, we'd probably say it's doubtful, but not impossible.

At this point, any 2018 kids are not signing LOIs because the signing period is over. That doesn't mean much, except that any commitments now won't be bound to the school until they show up on the first day of class. We'll keep trying to chase down news on Chang. There doesn't seem to be a lot else out there right now for 2018.

The main recruiting question, at least for the next few days, revolves around Jontay Porter.

We've been pretty adamant for a while that we strongly thought Jontay was going to stay in the draft. And we still think he will. But the consensus of everyone we talk to that knows things is that the chances of him coming back to Missouri have increased in the last week or two.

You can hear us talk about it with Michael Porter Sr. here

The bottom line is that it sounds like if the family is pretty confident Jontay is a first round pick, he will go (as we've been saying for quite some time). And at this point, it appears most expect him to be a late first round pick. So, like we said, we'd still guess that he goes if we had to. But there are legitimate concerns about his readiness to be a pro (more off the court than on it--not saying he's a bad kid, just that it's a far different lifestyle once basketball is your job).

We've talked a lot about Porter Sr.'s future as well. He told us he plans to stay at Mizzou and reiterated that to the Kansas City Star. So that's taken care of for now. I don't think it's a guarantee that's the way it plays out if Jontay goes pro, but I'd say at this point we probably expect him to stick around.
