BASKETBALL RECRUITING
Just one note today. Fletcher is set to release his top five.
Yes, we have reached the point where people who produce edits for the social media accounts of high school kids are now teasing the release of a top five (which will undoubtedly come with the caveat that the recruitment is still open, meaning the top five is good at least as long as it takes you to read the tweet, but probably not much longer). But we're reporting on it and you're awaiting it and reading it and commenting on it, thus we are all enablers in 2019 recruiting, which is a process in which it is far more important to get likes and people begging you to come to their school on social media than it is to actually pick the right school.
Note: This is not a commentary on Cam'Ron Fletcher specifically. We are sure he is a good kid. This is a commentary on a broken recruiting process that has been made utterly ridiculous by social media.
Anyway, The Chamber's old man yells at cloud rant aside, what about the actual top five? We would be shocked if Missouri is not in it. We would be shocked if Michigan State is not in it. We think Ohio State will be in it. The others who we believe might make appearances are Kansas State, UCLA, Purdue and Duke. So, stay tuned.
FOOTBALL RECRUITING
MIZZOU HOSTING TWO OFFICIAL VISITORS
- Johnson's offer list won't turn any heads, but the Missouri coaching staff evaluated the three-star prospect during the spring and was impressed enough in his abilities to extend an offer back in April and bring him in for an official visit. We are definitely putting Johnson on commit watch for the Tigers.
- The Memphis native doesn't do many interviews, so it's tough to tell where he's at in his recruiting process. However, it appears Missouri will be his first official visit this weekend. Curry currently has 19 total offers and has taken previous unofficial visits to Mississippi State, Arkansas, and South Carolina. It seems that those and perhaps other SEC schools are heavily involved with the three-star prospect.
CATCHING UP WITH KOLE TAYLOR
- We were able to get the four-star, tight end target and recent official visitor to Missouri on the phone on Thursday night. The Tigers were the second school to offer Taylor, who has built a great relationship with A.J. Ofodile throughout the recruiting process and says he loves the way Mizzou uses its tight ends and sees a lot of similarities between himself and Albert Okwuegbunam. Taylor is going to proceed with his scheduled officials to Washington, LSU, and Penn State throughout the month of June and is aiming to make his decision before his senior season. We'll have a story on Taylor and his trip up over the weekend.
IN-STATE 2021 DE TARGET VISITS AGAIN
- The highly-touted 2021 defensive end target made his third trip to campus on Thursday for an unofficial visit. Ford already claims 18 Power Five offers from the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma just to name a few. Missouri is making good in-roads with the rising junior, who will be one of the Show Me State's top prospects in next year's class.
ANOTHER RB TARGET LOOKING TO VISIT
- Caught up with the three-star prospect out of Houston this week, who told us he has built a good relationship with running backs coach Cornell Ford is looking to set up a visit to Missouri this summer. Arkansas and Arizona are other schools he mentioned he hears a lot from and is planning to get out to those schools at some point as well.
FLA. SAFETY LOOKING TO SCHEDULE AN OFFICIAL
- Jones isn't rated, but he should be. The West Orange (Fla.) product has 26 offers with a handful of those being the power five variety that include the likes of Duke, Vanderbilt, Maryland, Minnesota, Syracus, Purdue, and Rutgers. Jones is taking a visit to Duke this weekend and told us he's in the process of scheduling an official visit to Missouri for the weekend of June 14th.
TEXAS WR TAKING OFFICIAL
- The tall, lanky wide receiver received his offer from Missouri in November of last year. He is scheduled to take an official visit to Columbia on June 14th. Texas Tech and Arkansas appear to be two other programs heavily involved. The three-star prospect also has power five offers from the likes of K-State, Iowa State, and Kansas.
