We ran down the basketball situation on Wednesday night. The short version is this: It's Mark Mitchell or the transfer portal for Mizzou from here on out.
In football, we went through the scholarship situation here. The upshot is there are likely somewhere between about 9 and 13 spots left in this class depending on the number of transfers out.
Now on to the more specific news of what's happened this week and will will be in town.
We interviewed Missouri linebacker commit Xavier Simmons. He told us he plans to sign in December and be a mid-year enrollee. He attended Missouri's road game at Georgia this past weekend and was in CoMo when the Tigers hosted Texas A&M earlier this season. We'll have more from our conversation with Simmons next week.
Davison Igbinosun - Missouri just offered the former Rutgers commitment on Thursday. Since reopening his recruiting process, the high three-star prospect has picked up new offers from Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska, West Virginia, and others. He took official visits to Duke and Pitt this past summer and was at Tennessee for an official visit in early October. The Missouri offer is fresh, but pulling a kid out of New Jersey will be a tough task.
Jacarrius Peak - New OL offer. Has official visits set up for Louisville on Dec. 3rd and NC State on Dec. 10th. Miami and Houston are also potential visit destinations. Plans to sign in December. Seems unlikely Missouri's all that involved.
Jaden Harris - Will take an OV to Miami on Dec. 3rd, K-State Nov. 14th, Vanderbilt on Dec. 10th. Maryland will also likely get an official. Has Missouri in his Top 5, but it looks like Tigers are on the outside looking in right now.
Domonique Orange - As we’ve previously mentioned, Missouri interest in the Rivals250 prospect has waned throughout the fall. That is evident in Orange’s recent interview with our Kansas site, who said he intends to take visits with the Jayhawks, Iowa State, Ohio State, Texas A&M, and Oregon in the coming weeks. Whether all those visits materialize remains to be seen, but it’s apparent Missouri has moved on.
No movement to report with Texas A&M transfer Antonio Doyle. The situation is very much what we wrote last week. All indications are Doyle is interested in Missouri. Some believe them to be the favorite going into the process. Missouri needs to figure out where he best fits in terms of position. We wouldn't expect this process to be overly long, but it's not a done deal right now either.
Samuel M'Pemba - This is the one that's probably garnered the most attention with a series of pro-Mizzou tweets lately. The only real important one said that he was going to be in town for the Florida game. That's not insignificant. Getting him on campus after it seemed certain he was headed elsewhere is big. And he's at least somewhat interested if he's taking that visit. The level of interest is tough to gauge right now. He's very difficult to get in touch with. Yes, the public tweets are at least somewhat of a positive sign, but behind the scenes there's not really a good feel for how serious he is about Missouri quite yet. That question will get a much better answer once he's on campus. Not trying to throw cold water on this one because it is at least trending upward, just not ready to say where we see this one going quite yet.
Here are the visitors we are expecting this weekend:
Andrew Paul
Logan Reichert
Tyler Gant
Jahkai Lang
Marvin Burks
Sam VanDyne
JT Smith
Eddie Tuerk
Jeremiah McClellan
Isaiah Mozee
None of these are official visits. We also don't anticipate any official visitors next weekend. Any remaining officials prior to the early signing period will take place the weekend of December 3 and December 10. We'll do our best to follow up with some of the guys in town this weekend and see how things went next week.
