BASKETBALL RECRUITING

Make sure to see our updates on who Missouri has been checking on this week. We've put everything we've seen in this thread, so rather than repost it, it's easier to make sure you read this: https://missouri.forums.rivals.com/threads/coaches-on-the-road.122048/

On to some individual updates

Missouri's world right now centers around Caleb Love. The five-star guard was in town last weekend and, by all accounts, things went well. We are told Love's parents are huge fans of Cuonzo Martin and the home school has made major progress with the CBC guard. He cancelled his Indiana visit, but still has Kansas, Louisville and North Carolina on tap. Most consider the Tar Heels the biggest threat--and possibly still the favorite--with Louisville definitely in the mix. You can never count Bill Self out, but nobody we talk to seems to mention Kansas as a likely destination at this point. Missouri was in St. Louis to see Love on Thursday. The Tigers will take every opportunity to keep recruiting him as he is target No. 1 for the early signing period. There's no reason to expect a decision prior to him taking all three remaining visits.

Everybody wants to know what changed. We really can't say without hearing it from Love and so far as we know, he hasn't done any interviews (and has never named a leader beyond scheduling visits). But there are two points to be made here:

1) In recruiting, things change. People will say that the talk two months ago about Love being not only a long shot, but virtually impossible, for Missouri were wrong. At the time, they absolutely were not. That's what everyone was saying and what everyone believed. At one point we were told that if Love released a top five, Missouri wouldn't be on it. He released a top six and the Tigers were on it. The door was cracked open and Martin has made that crack quite a bit bigger. Simply because something isn't true today doesn't mean it wasn't true six weeks ago. Missouri deserves immense credit for getting back in this thing. Which leads to...

2) You don't give up in recruiting until the ink is dry. Many, many people questioned over the summer why Missouri was recruiting a guy so hard that it appeared it had almost no shot to get. This is why. Because Love obviously never told Missouri to stop. They were obviously never ruled out. They may have been knocked down, but the count didn't reach ten. And so you continue to fight until the ref says you can't fight anymore. Nobody's told Martin he's out of the fight.

Again, we're not saying Love ends up in CoMo. But the chances are significantly better than they were a few weeks ago. Stay tuned.

Bradford will be in Columbia or an official visit this weekend. At one time we thought a decision could come pretty quick after that, but he's now going to be at Late Night at the Phog in Lawrence so we would think a commitment isn't likely before then (to Missouri or anywhere) unless he fears losing a spot by waiting. We think for the time being Missouri is willing to wait because

Missouri is now out. He will choose between Purdue, Stanford, and Creighton with Kansas now making a strong push. He is heading back to Creighton this weekend for an unofficial visit. With this news, Missouri may turn up the heat to get Bradford.

Hugley is the third piece of the big man puzzle. We believe ideally Missouri would get two of them (unless they get Love and Josh Christopher). The Tigers are in the top group and have a chance at a visit, but the overriding feeling is he's staying further East. We'll see how this one plays out.

FOOTBALL RECRUITING:

- Missouri landed their 15th commitment on Wednesday in Warsaw (Ind.) kicker Harrison Mevis. The Indiana product is a top ten kicker and punter, according to Kohl's Kicking. You can read more on Mevis and why he chose Missouri below:

https://missouri.rivals.com/news/mizzou-lands-commitment-from-talented-kicker-harrison-mevis

- The way we project, Missouri has roughly eight spots remaining to fill in this year's recruiting class that should look something like this:

WR: 1-2
TE: 1
DL: 1-2
LB: 1
DB: 2-3

- In Case You Missed It, Rivals.com Midwest analyst Josh Helmholdt was in St. Louis this past weekend where he scouted and caught up with five Mizzou commits and numerous targets. We suggest you read his in-depth report at the link below:

NEW TARGET:

- Along with Mevis, Missouri extended another 2020 offer this week in La Cueva (N.M.) wide receiver/tight end Connor O'Toole. With Ofodile's involvement with the three-star prospect, it appears the Tigers like him as a tight end.

For more on O'Toole, click here for our profile on him from Thursday.

EYEING JUCO RANKS:

- Fort Scott (Ks.) C.C. defensive back Jared Phillips was an intriguing prospect that was on campus last weekend for Missouri's game against West Virginia. Phillips played his high school ball at Cardinal Ritter, so there is already familiarity between him and the Missouri staff, who will continue to evaluate him throughout the fall.

VISITORS FOR SEMO:

Commits expected in the house include: Brady Cook, Jay Maclin, Drake Heismeyer, Mitchell Walters, Jalen St. John, Will Norris, Jalen Logan-Redding, and Cooper Davis.

Notable underclassmen prospects expected include:
Arlen Harris, Jr.
Otto Hess
Corey Platt
Jackson Walls
