FOOTBALL RECRUITING
- Chapel Hill (Ga.) defensive Bradyn Swinson is scheduled to make his college decision today. We are not expecting it to be Missouri. The three-star prospect has taken recent official visits to Arizona State and Oregon. It seems like the Ducks have a lot of momentum here.
- East St. Louis (Ill.) safety Antonio Johnson is expected to make his college decision on Saturday. All signs point to him choosing Texas A&M if you look at recent FutureCast predictions.
- Mizzou offensive line commitment Ray Curry is visiting Arkansas this weekend as they host San Jose State. This doesn't come as a huge surprise as the Razorbacks have been involved with the three-star prospect throughout his recruiting process. Curry also visited Arkansas for a game last season, so there is a lot of familiarity there. We don't think Curry is a top priority for Arkansas on their O-line target board at the moment, but they could turn up the heat if they miss out on a couple of their top guys.
- Former (and very brief) commit Montra Edwards announced on Twitter this week that he will take an official visit to Missouri the weekend of October 12th when the Tigers host Ole Miss. This will be the three-star prospect's first official visit, who announced a top six that includes Missouri, Ole Miss, Miss. State, Tennessee, Maryland, and Florida State.
- In a bit of an interesting twist, Jones (Fla.) defensive back and current South Carolina commit Dominick Hill is expected back on campus at Missouri this weekend for their game against the Gamecocks. A quick recap, Hill took an official visit to Missouri back on June 14th before committing to South Carolina only days later. With Hill visiting Missouri again, it seems the Tigers are still very much in the mix and in contention to flip the three-star prospect.
- While Raytown (Mo.) cornerback and former Oklahoma commit Dontae Manning was expected to be back on campus (unofficially) for the South Carolina game, however, we're hearing that visit will likely not happen now. Manning has three official visits remaining. He recently told Rivals.com Midwest Analyst Josh Helmholdt that Georgia, LSU, and Oregon are the schools vying for his remaining officials. He's already taken officials to Oklahoma and Texas A&M.
- Notable potential visitors for Saturday's game include:
Javian Hester - official visit
Dominick Hill - South Carolina commit
Dontae Manning - (doubtful)
Quinton Conley, 2022 WR, Pembroke Hill (Mo.)
AJ Rollins, 2021 TE, Creighton Prep (Neb.)
BASKETBALL RECRUITING
We figured this would be a good time to just kind of run down where everything is and reset the picture on what we know for the next three classes.
2020
Nothing new on this front, Love will be at North Carolina and they’re likely the favorite in this race as we’ve said for a while now. Mizzou is definitely trending in the right direction but don’t expect any ground breaking news until Love has concluded his visits. If we're guessing, the Heels are the ones everyone has to catch
Bradford visited last weekend and things out of the visit have been pretty quiet. Kansas is looming large here with Bradford visiting there for Night at the Phog. If he picked up an offer from them, this recruitment changes completely. Until then, we continue to believe that Mizzou is either at or near the top if his list.
Been asked on the board a lot recently about Johnson and we are working on an update. We’ve never gotten in touch with Johnson himself but we’ve attempted contacting his coaches and are awaiting a response. When we have an update, you all will get it ASAP. I know a recent report had Mizzou among Johnson’s final three, but the fact that we have heard nothing tying the two together for quite a few months now probably isn’t good news. He recently visited Butler and they are likely the favorite for his services.
Cuonzo Martin’s staff offered Wilmore this week in what could be interpreted as a Plan B for big men in the 2020 class. Key word being BIG. Wilmore is listed at 7’2 or 7’3 depending on the source. We’ll try to dig up some more info here.
In case you missed it, the Tigers are out here. Focus on bigs in the 202 class now will shift exclusively to Bradford, Wilmore, and Jon Hugley. Kalkbrenner is still considering Purdue, Stanford, Creighton, and Kansas recently jumped into the mix.
We still expect Hugley to visit Mizzou at some point, but his official to Pitt is this weekend. It will be interesting to see if a commitment comes out of that because many have considered them the favorite for a while now.
We've got a new name here too. Hensley is in our database as a 2019 guy, but he's doing a prep year at Link Year in Branson. We are told Mizzou is taking an interest. Not sure exactly where it stands right now. Logic would say this is a plan in case they don't get the front court players they want that they've already offered. We'll try to follow up soon on where Missouri is at with him.
2021
If you haven’t followed the coaches on the road thread, I suggest checking that out for most of your info on who the staff has been seeing in the 2021 class recently but we’ll highlight a few names.
Bates got a visit from the staff last week. No formal offer was extended but Bates is coming to campus this weekend and it would be very surprising to see him leave without an offer. Bates recently visited K State and will be taking an official to Creighton on October 18. We’ll catch up with Bates after the visit to see how things went.
Missouri was in Springfield to check out Brookshire this week. He's a guy who could start picking up high major offers soon.
Sallis has already been to campus for an unofficial visit and picked up an offer from the Tigers. The staff was in to see him again this past weekend. Arkansas offered yesterday and he's picking up quite a bit of steam lately
He has been mention in a couple threads this week and will be a high priority target in the 2021 class. The staff was in to see him on Thursday. Branham is a top 40 player in the country and has visited Louisville, Cincinnati, and Xavier recently.
Roper is another Michigan target in the 2021 class. 2021 is a little bit of a down year locally and the staff has adjusted accordingly, focusing heavily on Michigan thus far with the likes of Pierre Brooks, Jaden Akins, and others. Roper does hold an offer from the Tigers and has recently visited Northwestern, Ohio State, and Wisconsin.
Bryce McGowens, JJ Traynor (2020), and Braeden Carrington are some other names Missouri has watched but not offered yet.
2022
Not going to list too many names here because it is still so far off and the staff has already watched quite a few but here are a couple that will be on campus this weekend
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2022/tarris-reed-248270
Reed is from Chaminade in St Louis and runs with MOKAN Elite in the summer. I saw him 5-10 times during his freshman season in high school and each time I came away more impressed than the last. He’s got a good feel and touch for his age and moves very well for his size. We’ll be talking to him on Sunday to see how his visit this weekend goes. Reed got an offer from K State recently and obviously the Wildcats have recruited the St Louis area well in recent years.
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2022/mark-mitchell-232850
Mitchell already stands 6’7 just entering his sophomore season and plays the wing for Bishop Miege in Kansas. That is an NBA level frame and it is why Mitchell is ranked as one of the premiere players in the 2022 class. Obviously getting him on campus this early is a huge step in the recruiting process and its hard to imagine him not emerging as one of Cuonzo Martin’s top targets in 2022.
