Gavin Otte is the walk-on WR from Rolla that had some highlight reel scrimmage performances but never got to display his hands in an actual game.

A high ankle sprain in the first scrimmage last August cost him valuable practice time and reps that likely doomed his chances of earning the trust and confidence of his QB, Maty Mauk.

He was rewarded for his hard work and saw playing time in every game this past Fall but was seldom thrown to and ended his career with exactly one catch for -3 yards (got blown up on a quick screen vs. South Carolina when his teammate missed his block).

Still...the guy keeps working out and actually performed pretty well at the recent Mizzou Pro Day and is hoping for a chance to try out for an NFL team or in the CFL.

Obviously not the biggest or fasted guy as he measured at 5' 9 7/8" 185 pounds and ran a 4.68 40 (7th best that day, had previously run 4.58 electronic).

HERE are Gavin's test scores from the Mizzou Pro Day. Keep in mind that he was competing that day against Mizzou's top 4 recievers, Sasser, Hunt, White, and Murphy...plus two starting safeties Singleton and Webb...so finishing second or third in these is pretty impressive):

Bench - 16 reps (actually got 19 reps but they took 3 away for not locking out arms completely)
Vertical Jump - 34" 3rd
Broad Jump - 10'1" 2nd
I-Test (20 yard shuttle) - 4.33 2nd
3-Cone Drill - 7.0 2nd
60 yard Shuttle - 11.71 3rd

Coach Ivey told Gavin that he "tore it up" at The Pro day and that he was really proud of him.

Brock Olivo of the Chiefs came up to Gavin and told him, "GREAT JOB...you really look like a Pat Ivey product to me!"

One NFL Scout commented to a member of the Mizzou Strength Staff that based on what he saw...he felt like Gavin would get invited to some NFL camps.

Gavin also excelled in the recieving drills at the Pro Day and had a couple of Highlight Reel catches.

He also happens to be a very good blocker in the open field which is also a big plus.

Those who have seen him perform in scrimmages and practices know he has remarkable hands...and there is another test done in the WR room that may indicate why.

It is called the "Dyna-Vison" test which measure's one's peripheral vision.

Supposedly the WR's tests themselves pretty often on this...as frequent testing actually improves an athlete's peripheral vision which seems to have a pretty direct correlation between good hands (seeing the ball) and the ability to see and find open zones on the field when running patterns.

Not sure what the numbers mean or how the scores are tabulated...but a "Dyna-Vison" score over 100 is considered pretty good.

On this test...only two Mizzou WR's tested over 100. The second best score by any other Mizzou reciever is 114. Gavin's score on the Dyna Vision Test is a pretty remarkable score of 132.

FYI a member of the Rams told Gavin's Dad that anything over 120 is considered ELITE NFL LEVEL and the highest score he had ever heard of was 132.

Evidently this score carries some weight with some scouts...and it combined with his other pretty decent test scores for explosiveness and quickness just might get him a shot at a Free Agent Try-Out.

Weather he gets a try out in an NFL camp or in the CFL...either opportunity would make a dream come true for this hardworking walk-on.

It would be an unbelievable story for walk on with virtually no stats to even garner a try out in either league...much less actually make a roster.

Impossible you say? Don't tell him that.
