This has been a terrific road trip. Boston is just a great place for a long weekend.
I’ve been here a few times before, but enjoyed it even more this time around.
A Mizzou buddy and I try to meet at a road game each season, and this one had been circled for several years.
Of course, planned highlights were taking in a Red Sox - Yankees game at Fenway Friday night and the Tigers yesterday.
We chose to avoid the expense and hassle of a rental car (driving and trying to park in Boston is a nightmare), so we stayed in Brookline right in the Green Line.
When we weren’t on The T, it was easy to take taxis and ubers.
The stay began by meeting PMer boblbarnes and his lovely bride. We took a long stroll and had a great meal at The Publick House in Brookline.
The historic sites and incredible architecture were treats.
The people were actually quite friendly, even the BC folks.
Chestnut Hill and Boston College’s campus were very impressive and an interesting counterpoint to the heavily urban areas we were mostly in.
And finally, experiencing a Saturday night in the North End, where there must be a hundred Italian restaurants in a small area with narrow streets. We chose Giacomo’s and waited in a line for quite some time to get a table. It was very good, but there were about dozen others on every block. The people were out in force in a pleasant early fall evening.
We both noticed that there seemed to be no fear of street crime (granted we didn’t visit EVERY neighborhood); people, particularly women singly or together, strolled the streets very carefree.
Highly recommend taking a trip to Beantown.
