So we'll try to be in touch with Smith today obviously. Haven't had much luck so far, but we'll keep trying.
The big question, and I know a lot of you have already asked it, is "What does this mean for Courtney Ramey and Mizzou?" The truth is, nobody knows for sure. We've definitely had people tell us they've heard Smith and Ramey weren't going to play together in college. But we've also had people say that's not at all the case. As we've been telling you for weeks, it really just comes down to who's right. And without Ramey or Smith talking, we don't know that right now.
I've seen some tweets saying Mizzou would still take Ramey. Well, of course they would. That's never been the question. The question is if Ramey will still come with Smith already committed, not if Missouri wants him. Once the offer went out and became public, Mizzou was all in and was going to have a spot for Ramey until he made a decision.
As we posted in the Chamber, I had a source earlier this week say that Missouri was making progress in setting up a visit. It could very well be a mid-week visit, rather than on a weekend (as I mentioned, Courtney is on the road for an all star game next week). It will be interesting to see if that happens. The school I hear most as competition is Oklahoma State. Yes, SMU was in to see him earlier this week (Friday I think). I just can't see him going to SMU. It doesn't make much sense on the surface. South Carolina and Ohio State are still in it. Texas is too.
The upshot is, I'm a little bit surprised Mizzou took Smith this early. It does give me just a little bit of pause, but I don't think it means they're out for Ramey. I think what it more likely means is the talk that Ramey and Smith wouldn't play together was probably wrong. I think the ideal finish to the class is Smith, Ramey and a graduate transfer (preferably one who can play in the post a little bit).
We'll stay on it and hopefully hear from Smith and/or Ramey soon, but that's where I'm at this morning.
