Folks, this is it.
This is THE MOMENT.
Undefeated and sky high Florida Gators are in town with their all everything cornerback and very strong defense as well as a confident young quarterback in Will Grier who has shown flashes of brilliance.
According to the national media and most SEC experts, they are about to whitewash our Mizzou Tigers. After watching the morning shows, you might even wonder why we should play the game.
And, truth be told, this is going to be a very difficult task. Florida is a team playing like a team of destiny. Grier isn't making mistakes. Florida's defense is (as always) incredible.
Drew Lock played well in his first start. He got the ball out quickly, confidently executing, and it seems we ran better with him at the controls. However, the refs made an extremely bad call in taking the safety off the board. Even the black and goldest of black and gold glasses would have to admit the refs completely missed that call. Intentional grounding in the end zone and a throw where the ball lands at the 3 and the line of scrimmage was the 9 is as clear a penalty as there can be. He also was beyond fortunate that SC LB was so stunned to see a gift wrapped pick six that hit him between the 1's on his number 11 jersey that he couldn't grasp his hands around it.
And we haven't exactly shown an ability to run the football at all...very concerning going up against a very stout run defense.
But for all this setup, i believe that this game, this moment, is different.
This is THE MOMENT for our team to DO MORE. This is the moment. This is our time to shine in the glorious Missourah night under the lights at The Zou.
This is the moment where Mizzou's D Line Zou shows who we are. The saying goes that "you find out exactly who you are when you get punched right in the mouth." And we are gonna take some shots. To be sure.
But TBJr. is the anchor of our tremendous, young, and improving DL. Charles Harris is the best DE in the country that nobody knows about. Big Josh Augusta can completely control the middle of the LOS. And Nate Howard, Josh Moore, Walter Brady, and AJ Logan are giving us a glimpse of just how bright the future is for this D Line. Just think, that was Walter Brady (a d lineman) dropping back into coverage with a zone blitz last week and showing flashes of brilliance (and good speed) after his INT.
Because these guys are gonna do whatever they can to impose their will, the LBs will be free to do what they do. And for Kentrell Brothers, that is make just about every tackle. The ones he doesn't make are cleaned up nicely by his battery mate Michael Scherer.
Kenya Dennis #7 plays with a fire and an intensity unusual for a D- back. Aarion Penton #11 is what he is...a rock solid multi year corner with excellent ball skills.
This is THE MOMENT. It is my hope that Coaches Pinkel and Henson will reveal a few new wrinkles on offense. Wingo has tremendous speed. At its core, football is a game where you try to get the ball to your athletes in space. I would hope they DO MORE and feature at least a few jet sweeps, etc. to get this electrifying player the ball. And Cam Hilton? Oh wow.
Nate Brown has shown he can make the plays.
Tyler Hunt shows that he plays every down with the urgency of the moment. You know every single chance he gets, he is gonna do whatever he can to maximize it.
O Line...this game is on YOU. Will you protect this team? Will you protect this moment?
Drew Lock...if you are anything like your Dad...you are a leader. I attended Mizzou with Andy Lock and the thing I remember about him was he was a leader. This is the fun stuff, kid. Enjoy every moment.
To the fans at The Zou. You must DO MORE. The crowd has a chance to literally exert its will and I've seen Faurot rock and pulsate and come alive in games like Nebraska 03, 07, Oklahoma 10, and Arkansas 14. But you must DO MORE. This stadium needs to literally come alive. The energy from such an environment is palpable.
Ask Henry Sweat on our board what it's like to play in that environment. It's like having an extra defender. The adrenalin...well lets say it allows our guys to run faster, hit harder, and DO MORE. You need to have absolutely no voice by the half time...and then find something deep within and be even louder in the 3rd and 4th quarter.
Or you could just sit on your hands and do nothing and feel nothing. What will it be?
So, folks...this is YOUR MOMENT. Will you own it? When you feel that punch in your mouth, what will it say about who you are?
MIZZOU....WHAT IS INSIDE OF YOU?!?!?!!!!!!!!!
I hope to find out tonight against the Florida Gators.
