Replied with this info in another thread, but it deserves its own.
S.Korea has been held up by US media and political leaders as an icon of successful isolation and containment because of their early and widespread testing measures.
This claim is a fraud.
And an apt example of the power of herd mentality and conventional wisdom.
S.Korea has been able to effectively contain so far because of an extensive electronic surveillance system, along with state cameras everywhere to track and trace.
Add in hefty fines for breaking Q. and a culture much more aware, willing, and experienced in implementing Uber hygiene measures.
This is how they’ve done it. NOT testing.
In fact, the U.S. has now surpassed S. Korea in testing/1 mill pop!! We do 12,000 per 1/mill and S.Korea does 11,000.
A debate can be had whether the intense big brother privacy intrusion that the New Yorker article details is worth it... but let’s put to bed this inane notion that S.Korea testing absent intense surveillance had efficacy.
