The US Open concluded on Sunday with Carlos Alcaraz of Spain winning his first Grand Slam title and becoming the youngest world #1 player in the history of the sport at only age 19. The next great tennis player has arrived. If he avoids injuries during his career, he could end up in the same conversation with the big 3 for greatest of all-time (Djokovic, Nadal, Federer). It'll surprise me if he doesn't. This season, he won more tournament title and had more overall match wins than any other player on tour.

Other notables:
  • Carlos Alcaraz is the youngest player to win the US Open since Pete Sampras won in 1990.
  • Alcaraz is the youngest Grand Slam tournament champion since Rafael Nadal won the French Open in 2005.
  • Alcaraz is the first player in US Open history to have won three 5-set matches before winning the championship match. In doing so, Alcaraz had spent 23 hours and 20 minutes on-court before the final match began, which lasted 3 hours & 20 minutes. This included 5 hours & 15 minutes in the quarterfinals and 4 hours & 19 minutes in the semifinals.
  • Earlier this season, Alcaraz became the first player ever to win back-to-back-to-back matches against world top 5 players (#4 Nadal, #1 Djokovic, #3 A. Zverev).

American Frances Tiafoe made the semifinals, making him the first American to do so since 2006 (Andy Roddick). US tennis is on a big upswing right now, currently with 12 players in the world top 100 and 8 of those in the top 50.

Lastly, tennis has never been more popular. Attendance at the US Open was 776,120, which set a new record.
