Pre season, most of us would have realistically predicted a 2-3 record at this point. Gun to your head, most would say 2-4 after Saturday.
IMHO, the disappointment in the season is two fold. First, the loss to WVU was really disappointing. We HOPED our team would show improvement from last year, but the reality was that they really weren't ready to play on week one. Our team and coach looked unsteady from the opening kick off, and we were really never a factor in that game.
The other disappointment is the LSU/Defensive debacle. The defense has not been great this year, but they certainly haven't sucked....until LSU. LSU played highly motivated and our team looked like they were just excited to play in a big stadium.
One of my gambling maxims is to take the season under on first year coaches. Smart doesn't look good, Muschamp is still a boob, and Odom is not surprising anyone on the upside. There's a reason first year coaches struggle. New schemes, player unfamiliarity, inexperience, etc. Rarely does a first year coach over-achieve without a great deal of luck (read: Florida, 2016)
That said, I think Mizzou will show up this weekend. We seem to have Florida's number, they've had distractions, returning QB, and they still believe that Mizzou doesn't belong on the same field as the mighty Gator.
An unlikely win this weekend completely changes the outlook of the season. Whether or not HCBO is the answer for Missouri football remains to be seen, but he will improve over the next couple of years.
