Thought it was BS based on my personal observations of having attended numerous bowl games and away games over the years. Not surprisingly, I was right.

People need to stop perpetuating this myth. Again, and not surprisingly, that includes the media. Hey @GabeD, maybe would be a good story to write about.

Anyways, here are the facts:

Texas Bowl
Attendance stats go back to 2006 and we've played there twice during that time. We have the third (2009 season vs. Navy) and fifth (2017 vs. Texas) best attended games and missed fourth place by three people. Only Arkansas/Texas in 2014 and LSU/TxTech in 2015 beat our attendance for the Navy game. Of particular note, the two lowest attended Texas Bowls both involved Minnesota.

Liberty Bowl
We drew 51,587 for our game vs. OKST in 2018 season, which is good for that bowl's sixth-best attended game since the 2010 season. Our game was better attended than TXAM/WVU in 2014, UCF/GA in 2010, GA/TCU in 2016.

Cotton Bowl
Our 2007 game against Arkansas was the fourth best attended game at the old Cotton Bowl going back to 1992. Game moved to AT&T Stadium the year after. We played OKST there after the 2013 season and drew 72,690, which was better than Ohio State/USC (2017 season), Michigan State/Baylor (2014 season) and Clemson/Notre Dame (2018 season, which was also a CFP semi-final game).

Independence Bowl
This bowl has been played since 1976. Our game against Arkansas in 2003 was the second-best attended ever, 29 people behind GA/TXAM game in 2009.
