As a fan of some fifty plus years yesterday’s game represented our program. Always long in potential but coming up just short. I have seen if in the Orange Bowl turning the ball over 11 times, Onofrio bless he’s soul losing to an underachieving Kansas team, Warren Powers failing to recruit after being given great talent by Uncle Al. Woody making us a joke in a short time. Still failing to get a timeout to review the number of plays run. Larry Smith losing to Nebraska and then bottoming out. Pinkel and his inability to beat OU when he equal talent and now this constant poor managenet at end of games.
I have a few observations I would like to share in a reflection of this season and Coach Odum
1.It appears to me the kids (yes they are kids) like and play hard for Odum
2.He and his staff are good at evaluating talent at the three star level and coaching them up
3.I think overall his staff recruits better than Pinkels and is more invested in the kids
4.Barry is a good guy loves Mizzou and will never humiliate the University like others in his profession
Now for the negative
1.Derek Dooley was fired at Tennessee because he made bad decisions during games. Do we see a pattern here? His red zone offense has cost us yesterday, Carolina, Kentucky. He needs to read the book Redzone Offense for Dummies.
2.I like and admire everything Andy Hill has done for the program going back to catching the winning touchdown against OU in 1983 but Andy our special times are hideous. Kickoffs out of bounds, blocked field goals, missed extra points and the worst kicking the ball to a returner that turned a sure victory against Kentucky into defeat. Really special teams! Time to bring in a new coach
3.The Defense wow! Makes the Chiefs look legit. Ryan Walters Defense no talent or failure to learn from prior games. Play the ball turn attempt to intercept! We have gone from A school that produced defensive ends pro ready to nonexistent pressure on the qb and failure to contain on RPO (run pass option) Our defense will never improve without an upgrade at that position.
All said in constructive criticism. Love Mizzou hate the ride it gives us frustrated disappointed but familiar! Happy New Year
