I read a dozen times in the offseason people talking about how people melt here, but good gracious guys is this the first time you've seen a P5 team play a rummy the first week? At least 40-50% of games are within two scores going into halftime and many going into the 4th quarter. Were other underdogs putting up 30+ points in a half? No, but they sure weren't getting their D murdered like ours did to theirs either.
Why does that happen so often? First, Coach speak all you want, but it allows coaches in the offseason to power prepare and scout for their 2nd game which is an advantage. Second, Odom clearly got confused when he said he was complicating it. That was the most base D you'll see in your life the first half. That's what all freaking massive advantage teams do to some extent. Third, the underdog pulls out much more aggressive schemes and calls because it is their Super Bowl.
We won by almost 30. 45-17 sounds better I'd imagine but it's not like our O opened up the playbook either. I'd imagine this game did put the fear of God into the D to listen up real well this week and I'd imagine when we call our full D we will look way better. If you are one of the guys who thinks we are giving up 40+ a game then be consistent and put us down for 60+ on O. Both are irrational.
