is turning into another mess.
Brazille
Little Kobe
Durugordon
Keita
Brookshire
Brazille shows promise and there would be some pain if he left because of a coaching change. But, does anyone consider that he may leave if Martin stays? He will be coveted, and one of the two players who could transfer to a better program inside the SEC and play immediately. Brown has to be thinking he would like to end his college career with a real shot to play in the tournament.
Several years ago, perhaps Pinson's first year, I thought Martin had a knack or an eye for finding the diamond in the rough. Pinson/Dru Smith/Kobe Brown provide a solid argument for that.
But, if you look at the sheer numbers of kids that have flown through here in the past 5 years, and those still on the roster, the reality becomes clear.
He recruits quantity and hopes a couple stick. I don't think other than his first class that was gift wrapped for him has he had more than impact player in a class?
As Gabe stated earlier, the actual coaching by Martin may be fine, x and o stuff. But that is so less important in college basketball than recruiting.
If you can't recruit to a certain level, you cant make it as a coach.
This isn't going to work, after Saturday I wanted to believe. If for no other reason because turnover in staff while initially exciting is bad for the program as a whole. Assuming Martin will be replaced, that will make for 5 coaches in 20 years.
Maybe not horrible but not good.
