First, you can try and put a lipstick on a pig, but Odom was truly awful in in-state recruiting this year. 1/10 is unacceptable when there's this much talent in state. Not only did he not sign 9/10, but some were actively mocking him on Twitter, and I think the reason they did was the fact he appeared so desperate to sign them. I don't think we'll be seeing a Tiger 10 day like Mizzou put on for a long time.
Second, they got some nice pieces out of state. I'm glad there's a renewed focus on Texas. A lot of guys in Texas get overlooked just because of the sheer number of prospects in the state. Are there enough gems in this class to build on? I don't think so. Pinkel could get away with mid-30s classes because he knew how to develop players. Odom I'm not sure about. Pinkel also had his best seasons when he got close to or above a top 25 class and those players were juniors and seniors. People seem to forget that.
I would've said that if Odom killed it in recruiting and made a bowl, unless this upcoming season was a disaster, he would get a chance at year 4. Don't think so anymore. What does he need to do to get a fourth year? Anything less than a bowl I would show him the door. He's got a harder schedule this year, but in year 3 you should not be going 5-7, especially with a QB like Lock. There needs to be real signs of progress and some hope going into year 4.
