The Beatles: Get Back
It's an 8 hour commitment across three episodes. It's pared down from 160 hours of remastered footage that was originally supposed to be a feature film and network TV show about the making of what turned out to be The Beatles final two studio albums, Abbey Road and Let It Be, and its conclusion is the famous studio rooftop live performance in London which ended up being the last time the band performed together in public.
It's incredible; an absolute mesmerizing look back at competing musical geniuses working their trade while trying to hold together the most wildly successful band the world had ever known.
Somehow, through all the turmoil, they recorded multiple #1 hits; songs that are world famous and have stood the test of time.* This film is a blessing. If you're fan of The Beatles (I am), then it is a can't-miss. If your just a music fan and respect their accomplishments, it's absolutely worth your time.
*some of the songs you'll see being written and recorded:
The Rescue
A documentary film about the geeky social invalids from around the world who outperformed Thailand's Navy SEALs and did the impossible, dived through a 4-mile treacherous flooded cave to save a youth soccer team who'd been trapped for 14 days.
This story was discussed extensively on the OT while it was happening, but none of us had a clue what was really going on. The courage and heroism displayed by average nobodies, risking their lives for people they didn't know half a world away, is unbelievable inspiring.
If you want to see impossible stared in the face and told "fukc you," then watch this movie. That's not an exaggeration.
Both of these are available on Disney+.
