Just want to open discussion about people’s thought on travel baseball and how they correlate to scholarships at the next level. The debate on how much to spend vs what you may actually bet for a baseball/softball scholarship.

Reason this has sparked in my mind is I have been around kids who’s parents go absolutely bonkers about going to Under Armour Baseball Factory things, showcases, travel ball, etc and spend about 5,000 a summer when you add up travel, food, hotels, etc. If you do that from the time you’re 13-18 that’s $30,000 and then a D1, which let’s be honest that’s the parents dream/goal although it’s mostly unrealistic, gets 11.7 scholarships to split up amongst a 35 player roster.

My thought is you totally lose your ass on the deal. Would like to debate/hear others thoughts even if you oppose my perspective.

Would also like to point out that we offer what’s called the A plus program to our students and most schools around us do now also. A kid qualifies as long as they have a 3.0, an 18 or better ACT, and 95% attendance, and complete 50 volunteer hours tutoring. This program allows students to go to a 2 year vocational school, juco, or satalite campus school (SEMO has one in Sikeston) for free as far as tuition.

I can’t understand for the life of me why these kids aren’t giddy about this opportunity to go JUCO, PLAY for two years instead of pine ridding, and then go whatever avenue that takes you to later whether it’s D1, D2, NAIA, or just completing your degree.
