With recruiting picking up and things at full go, I'm just kind of posting info I pick up along the way each day rather than saving stuff up for the Chamber. Here's what I've got today:
*As I posted on Sunday and Dave Matter reported yesterday, Mizzou is talking with Barry Odom about an extension. Don't know the parameters, don't know a timetable for getting something signed and announced at this point.
*Remain confident the Texas Bowl is Missouri's destination assuming three SEC teams get in the NY6 bowls (and I see almost no way that doesn't happen). Talked to some people in Austin who expect the Longhorns to land there assuming Oklahoma beats TCU this weekend, which would put the Sooners in the playoff. If TCU beats OU, it gets a little more questionable. But I think the Horns are the likely opponent in Houston.
*Plenty of official visits being set up. Keep up with all confirmed visits here.
Guys we've confirmed will be here this weekend:
Antar Thompson
Jalen Knox
Payne Durham
Dominic Gicinto
Khmari Thompson
Daniel Parker Jr.
I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a Durham commitment during the visit. On Gicinto, I posted this morning I thought he was being looked at as a preferred walk-on, but that's not accurate. He's got an offer from Memphis and a visit in the works to Arkansas State, so if Missouri wants him, they'll have to offer. I know what the reaction from the board will be to an offer to him, but I'm told he ran 4.38 and 4.39 at two different camps and is a legitimate potential offer.
We have Gerald Nathan Jr. listed as a visitor this weekend, but I'm not sure that one is happening. I've got a message in to him to check. UPDATE: Nathan told me his team is still playing, so he will make the visit in two weeks after state is over.
Harry Ballard told me Cornell Ford is coming to his school in Mississippi today and he will firm up his visit then. We expect that to be this weekend.
Cameron Brown told the Nebraska guys that he might visit Mizzou this weekend, but I don't believe that's finalized at all. I've got a message out to Cam to see.
Mario Goodrich told the Nebraska site that he's looking at some official visits, but Missouri wasn't mentioned as one. I think the Tigers have an outside shot, but I expect him to sign with the Huskers if they hire Scott Frost, which I think will happen approximately 15 minutes after UCF's title game against Memphis this weekend.
Jahmir Johnson just picked up an offer from Pitt. That could be problematic as he is a Philadelphia native. His friendship with Yasir Durant is a major factor for the Tigers.
Cameron Wilkins is still planning to visit Texas A&M this weekend and Mizzou next weekend. Kind of interesting since the Aggies won't have a head coach during that visit. Definitely one Missouri would like to sign in the early period.
Cornerback is a spot Missouri is definitely hitting hard in the next few weeks. We're trying to confirm some things, but two guys I'd keep an eye on are Chris Mills and Eddie Smith.
That's what we've got for now. Hope to have more notes tomorrow morning.
