The one thing Gary Pinkel stressed and preached was the right way to carry the football. Gary's teams held on to the football better than most. Interceptions are bad and we have a sophomore QB who is still learning the mental part of the game but clearly a turnovers can kill momentum. I watched the game again last night just to look at key turnovers. The fumble on the punt return by J Johnson hurt us and obviously the fumble by J Moore was costly. Maybe we stop them and get momentum back but it takes its toll on the defenses with consecutive series regardless. Not sure how Barry teaches or emphasizes carrying the football but I see the ball being carried differently than in the past. I attribute some of it to being young especially with D Crockett who fumbled again. If we don't carry the ball correctly it will continue to happen. It is a habit you must develop in practice and probably the single most important habit for a WR, TE of RB to develop. It cannot be a matter of loosing focus it has to be a way of life for those carrying the ball.
I still remember Zach Abram fumbling and Gary Pinkel telling his RB coach to make sure Zack looks him in the eye when he says he was going to correct the problem. Maybe my paraphrase version based on what I remember happening but clearly the emphasis was to carry the ball correctly.
