Twas the night before MPJ day, when all through the ‘Zou,

The fan base was stirring, for they knew they were Due.

The kU fans wooridly claimed “we don’t care!”

As they shook in fear, knowing MPJ soon would be there.

The alumni had been drinking, and passed out in their beds,

While dreams of 360 dunks danced in their heads.

My family in fear, and I in my Mizzou cap.

I settled in, for a 24 hour nap.

When on the TV there arose such a clatter,

I awoke from my hang over, to see what the matter was.

Away to the TV, I flew like a flash,

Grabbed the remote, my shin I did smash

The glare of the lights on the basketball floor,

Just a teaser, for what what was in store.

When what to my half-opened eyes would appear,

But MPJ and his teammates donning Mizzou gear.

I spied a leader, intense and startlin’,

I knew this must be the coach they call Cuonzo Martin.

Faster than tigers, his players came,

He whistled and shouted and called them by name:

Now! Jontay, now! Kassius, Tilmon and Puryear!

On! Geist, on! On! Jontay, on! Nikko and Van Lear

Win the SEC tourney, then win it All!

Now Pick and roll! Shoot the three! Now dunk the ball!

As birds, that in the wind do fly,

When met with a challenge, before lose the team would choose die

So to the tournament they roar

And with a roster full of NBA players they surely would soar.

And then in an instance, I observed in St. louis,

The team was finally dancing! Emotion flowed through us!

As I drew my gaze, and was turning around,

MPJ jumped in the air and threw the ball down!

He was dressed in Mizzou gear, from foot to head,

The Kentucky Players cried “I don’t want to play, Id rather be dead!”

With an incredible team at his back,

For San Antonio, their bags they should pack

His Jump shots- how they sank, his slam was a scare,

His D was amazing, this really wasn’t fair.

His smile was drawn up, just like a bow,

His fade resembling, a mini 'fro

The basketball he palmed in one hand,

He then jumped, when would he land?

A smile on his face, his arms extended,

As he came down, the backboard’s life he ended.

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

He’d filled up the basket, near the rim he would lurk

And giving a nod, up the ladder he rose

When he cut down the nets, he struck a pose

His yell could be hard throughout he Lou<
