Another college football hot stove season is coming to a close and Venables is still an assistant coach (although a very highly paid one in a great spot). I remember when Larry Smith was let go all those years ago and Alden was searching for a new coach. Venables got an interview for the open Missouri job at the ripe age 29. Since then, he has racked up tons of wins as a coordinator at two very high profile positions, won a second national championship, and a Broyles award.

What is the scuttlebutt on him? He is literally right out of central casting for a football coach. Yet, with half of the SEC changing coaches this year he is still an OC. I am literally curious if there is some explanation for why he is not a head coach that may not be on his Wikipedia page.
