There was an interesting article published in the online Wall Street Journal on April 3rd regarding Villanova's approach to basketball team construction and recruiting. According to the WSJ, Villanova has won more games in the last four years than Duke, ku, or kentucky. Apparently, over the past five years Villanova's recruiting classes were "ranked an average of 37.2 in the nation according to 247sports.com". The coaching staff appears to not focus on one and done players who garner all the high school accolades (although they obviously would not turn away such players), rather they go after guys who have been part of winning programs in high school, e.g. state championships, league championships ... In this regard their strategy appears to not significantly differ from Loyala - Chicago.
Given the above, would we be best served by a similar approach, or perhaps a hybrid of this and the one and done model?
