I am just trying to think of any reason as to why CVL gets more minutes than Walton or anyone else. I honestly can't even make up a reason as to why he gets so many minutes.
CVL needs to come off the bench once or twice a game. Once for about five minutes to see if he is hitting since he is the "best" shooter in practice. If he hits one or two threes within those five minutes.. give him more time just to see if he keeps hitting. If he doesn't hit anything or misses a couple after he makes one or two threes take him out and only put him in to give someone a breather for a couple minutes. That should be his role. Not leave him in there and let him keep shooting until he makes one.
I am by no means a coach but I feel like it should be very easy to see that Walton is a more viable option. At least Walton can put pressure on the defense by driving. He is a little out of control and forces it sometimes but I feel like this is where player development comes in. You can teach a kid to slow it down a little or maybe look to pass when driving. After a successful drive where you either scored or got fouled... The defenders should start to show help one way or another which opens players up. His pressure of driving getting fouls are better than clanking threes off the rim. Heck, Walton averages one point lower than CVL and he plays less than half of what CVL does (might not be 100% accurate as I just glanced at some stats). I can't Imagine CVLs defense is that much better than Walton's to where it keeps Walton off the court.
I just dont get it. I can't even grasp at straws on this one.
