I am going to do a couple quick hits and then have a detailed paragraph on what week 1 tells us to expect in week 2 for Mizzou.
I am going to call the Arky vs Cincy game the overrated bowl. Neither team was any good. Not sure why people expected Cincy to be good replacing that many starters.
Is Utah overrated or FL underrated? I think the answer is both. I think Utah is a good team but the people talking about playoffs need to check themselves. FL’s defense looked elite and they at times had a competent offense.
Either Oregon is way overrated or GA is the greatest college football team ever. No one should be able to handle the #11 team in the country like that. GA made Oregon their bitch.
Have to wonder what Brian Kelly was thinking. He had playoff caliber talent he left behind a shit pile at LSU. Even though ND was winning the game for most of the evening it always felt like tOSU had the most talent and would pull away at some point. LSU did nothing all fake and then went nuts to toe the game up only to get their second kick of the day blocked. There were some really stupid coaching decisions by Norvell. Seems like a contest to see who could shoot themself in the foot the least.
Now onto Mizzou related stuff. If you just see the score you would think ksu was Dominant. They were far from that. Even on defense that people are raving about. The difference in this game was SDSU could not convert on 4th down. There were several times they drove deep into ksu territory but just couldn’t convert and get points. Also they couldn’t throw the damn ball. It had nothing to do with ksu’s defense. They had guys running wide open all over the field. SDSU was missing their best linemen and ksu failed to take advantage.
Their offense was pedestrian. Could not throw it. They had open guys and Martinez couldn’t hit them. Their biggest run plays were off tackle where they could just sprint faster than a FCS team. That won’t fly against FBS teams. I know Duece is highly regarded but if you look back to last year he made hey against weak opponents and struggled against the big dogs. With the exception of Baylor he didn’t do great against the better teams in the B12.
I thought Mizzou had a chance before watching the games this weekend. Now I think there is a really good chance.
