FOOTBALL Were the players exploited against their will?

In his column this morning, Joe Walljasper said, “Players were asked to make the sacrifices to mitigate their universities’ financial disasters and entertain the public.” Other writers have said something similar. I think the implication is that the players didn’t want to play football this season, but were convinced to do so without regard for their reluctance. is that what really happened? When the season was in doubt last summer, didn’t players start a “Let Us Play” movement? And if the players in general wanted to play, why do writers make it sound like the schools/conferences/networks convinced them to play against their will? Also, why is the effort to minimize the negative financial consequences of the pandemic seen as immoral greed?
