From the Civil War to the Battle for No. 1.

Thank you M. Godich! I know the book has been out for a couple of years, but my stack of books is high and I just finished this one. I won't pretend to write a thorough review here, others may do that, but I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in Missouri football, especially as it relates to the deep rivalry with kansas.

My apologies to historians, but I did not fully appreciate the background to the guerilla clashes across the Missouri - kansas border, i.e. how lawrence, ks and it's main street got their names, or how bloody awlful the clashes really were.

The coverage of Missouri football, mostly during Gary Pinkel's 2000-07 years, is absolutely wonderful; even the comments from the kansas personalities. The book is well written, and well sourced. You still have time to grab a copy and read it before this season kicks off. You will love the detailed descriptions of the 2007 season; in particular, the battle for number one in the country in Arrowhead stadium. Can you still picture Todd Reesing with that clod of end zone turf wedged into his facemask?

Thank you Chase Daniel and teammates, Coach Pinkel and Mark Godich for bringing us a great season and a great book.

Go Tigers!!
