Honest question. What are the qualifications to be an athletic director? In the scheme of things there aren't that many college athletic directors across the country when you think about it. There are Millions of lawyers, trillions of sales people, but not that many athletic directors.
What do you major in? Where do you start, to work your way to become one? Has there ever been a situation where, a great manager of business or a former athlete, a GM on a professional sports team, or a head of a charity (who knows how to raise money) becomes a successful athletic director....or is this position so specialized and unlike any other field, that you have to have the type of experience along the way to become a great athletic director.
You see doctors, lawyers, businessmen all the time become politicians. You see businessmen all the time become leaders of large charities and raise tons of money.
Besides raising money, hire and fire coaches, set compensation for athletic department, deal with press, what does the day to day job look like and could they ever go outside the box?
