One of Mizzou's top targets (and I believe the top target based on what I've heard) is Maryland's Rob Vaughn.
Vaughn has coached the Terps for six seasons. In 2022, he won a school record 48 games, Maryland won its first conference title in 51 years and hosted a regional (which they lost to UCONN). He followed it up this year with a 41-19 record that included the Big Ten regular season and conference tournament titles. The Terps are the 2 seed in Wake Forest's regional in the NCAA Tournament this week.
Vaughn is under contract through 2027, but he makes $450,000 a year. That's $25,000 less than Steve Bieser was making.
LIke myself, many of you might think "why would he take this job?" Vaughn began his career as a player and then a volunteer assistant at Kansas State. While he was in Manhattan, Blair Debord was an all-Big 12 catcher for the Wildcats. Missouri recently hired Debord to lead TSF. His previous stop was at Memphis where he was the baseball sport administrator (that may be part of his role here too, I'm not sure). So the connection with Debord, combined with a raise and a shot in the SEC gives Mizzou a shot here.
Maryland opens tournament play Friday. The earliest the season will be over is Saturday. I wouldn't imagine anything would happen before then.
