Every year around this time, the discussions start heating up for the MVP of the NFL, and then the NBA MVP talks begin to heat up as well. About this time every year too, I always wonder what the MVP really even is at the end of the day. History has an argument for every position, but at the end of the day, there is no clear definition of what the MVP really attaches itself to as far as criteria.
Is it the best season statistically?
Is it the player that is most valuable to their team?
Is it the player that is the best player in the league, with tangibles and intangibles to support?
Is it a combo of stats and wins?
It seems to be different every year, which as a fan, becomes extremley frustrating. For me, I think there is an argument that Lebron should be the MVP in the NBA every single season, in all categories above, yet clearly this has not been the case. Or for the NFL, what criteria do you use to distinguish between the stats of Matt Ryan or David Johnson against a Tom Brady or Ezekiel Elliot?
I think it's an interesting conversation from a fans perspective. Feel free to chime in, and add who you would vote for for NFL and NBA MVP.
I would go:
NFL: Matt Ryan
NBA: Lebron James
