So we've basically reached the point where we just do a basketball recruiting mini-Chamber every day or two now. We just went from coaching search chatter to recruiting chatter and at some point that will probably end, but we aren't there yet because Missouri basketball doesn't go a day without making some sort of news right now. Here's today's:
Amari Davis is in the portal
That means Missouri has two open spots.
This is not surprising. We have been saying all along we expect Missouri to add at least two more players. The question is who are those players?
Obviously I caused a stir last night when I posted predictions that they would be Adam Miller and Jamarion Sharp. Now that Davis is in the portal, I know everyone is going to accept that as 100% fact and treat those deals as done. I do not believe they are done. As I posted yesterday, I feel good about where I got the info. I will be up front with you guys and tell you that I've gotten some conflicting info on Miller today saying that he probably isn't coming to Mizzou. Which is right? I can't tell you for sure. It does seem coincidental to me that Davis is in the portal a little more than 24 hours after I had someone tell me that Miller was coming to Missouri (and I want to be clear, the info shared with me yesterday was pretty definitive). But it very well could be just that.
It does seem safe to say Missouri will be adding another guard at this point. And it absolutely could be Adam Miller (so far as I know, Miller hasn't said a word since entering the portal). I also had someone tell me that Mizzou was making 2023 five-star Elijah Fisher a priority. Fisher is heavily thought to be reclassifying to 2022. He's pretty far down the road with Texas Tech and some others, but did tell me that he's talked to Missouri. I'm trying to get more information on where that stands. It would be very surprising to me (I guess not impossible, but surprising) if Missouri could take both of them.
The one thing we are confident they're taking is a big man. Gates has been open saying he's looking for a rim protector. Nothing has changed here. I still believe that's going to end up being Jamarion Sharp from Western Kentucky. He is not in the portal. He has five more days to enter it. If we get to Sunday and he is not in the portal, obviously he's not coming to Missouri. But until then, I'll continue to think he's the most likely person to fill that spot considering I heard his name connected to Kyle Smithpeters within days of Dennis Gates being hired. If we get to Sunday and Sharp isn't in the portal then we'll start looking further into other possibilities to fill this spot.
TL;DR version: Missouri has two spots left. We expect one to be used on a guard that could be Adam Miller or could be someone else. We expect the other to be used on a big man who we feel will be Jamarion Sharp, but will have to revisit if he isn't in the portal by Sunday.
