TIGER STYLE BACK UP TO THIRD PLACE AFTER NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS THIRD SESSION
Waters, Houdashelt and Cox secure All-American honors, four others still with chance entering tonight's session
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Mizzou wrestling stormed back Friday afternoon at Scottrade Center, and currently stand in third place after three sessions at 2015 NCAA Wrestling Championships. Three Tigers advanced to their respective semifinals matchups, while four other grapplers enter the "blood round" of consolation wrestlebacks.
Redshirt senior Alan Waters (125), redshirt senior Drake Houdashelt (149) and sophomore J'den Cox (197) each locked up 2015 All-American honors Friday afternoon. It marks both the second All-American award for Waters and Cox, while Houdashelt secured his third career honor.
The Tigers had an outstanding start to Session #3, as they won their first nine matches between championship and wrestlebacks contests. Overall in the first session Friday, Mizzou took home victories in 13-of-15 matchups.
With three Mizzou grapplers already clinching All-American honors, four more Tigers still have an opportunity to add on to that list. Redshirt sophomore Lavion Mayes (141), redshirt senior Mikey England (165), redshirt freshman Willie Miklus (184) and redshirt senior Devin Mellon (HWT) can all reach the mark with a win in their first match in Session #4.
Sophomore Joey Lavallee (157) and redshirt senior Johnny Eblen (184) each saw their 2014-15 seasons come to an end today. Lavallee finishes the season with a 24-13 record, while Eblen's final season at Mizzou ends with a 29-7 record.
2015 NCAA Wrestling Championships Session #4 begins at 7 p.m. (CT) tonight.
