COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri running back Cody Schrader is one of 10 semifinalists for the 2023 Doak Walker National Collegiate Running Back Award, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced Tuesday.

A former walk-on who started his career at NCAA Division II Truman State, Schrader leads the Southeastern Conference and ranks seventh nationally in rushing, averaging 115.6 yards per outing. The Burlsworth Trophy finalist also paces the conference - and ranks 12th in the FBS - in all-purpose yardage (133.0 ypg), this season.

He has run for over 100 yards seven times this season, including each of the last four games. Schrader has 1,272 yards on the ground, 12 rushing scores and has found the end zone in eight straight contests. Schrader is one of five active running backs across all NCAA divisions – and the lone FBS player – with 5,000 or more career yards on the ground.

The senior co-captain was tabbed as the Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week following a 321-yard afternoon against Tennessee, where Schrader became the first player in Mizzou - and SEC - history to rush for 200 yards and record 100 receiving yards in the same game.

The 9-2 Tigers are one of three teams nationally to feature a 3,000-yard passer (QB Brady Cook), a 1,000-yard receiver (WR Luther Burden III) and a 1,000-yard rusher (Schrader).

Three finalists for the 2023 Doak Walker Award will be announced a week from today and the winner will be unveiled live on ESPN during The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 8. The formal presentation of the award will take place on the Southern Methodist University campus at the annual banquet scheduled for Feb. 16, 2024.

The Doak Walker Award presented by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum has been awarded to the nation’s top running back since 1990.
