FOOTBALL RECRUITING
- Five-star WR target Ryan Wingo has scheduled at least two official visits for June - one to Georgia (June 2nd) and the other to Missouri (June 23rd). Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Notre Dame, Michigan, Texas, and Texas A&M are the other schools still in the race. Wingo last visited Missouri back in January.
- Keeping with the WR target theme, Rivals250 prospect James Madison included Missouri among his Top 5 along with Oregon, Florida State, Louisville, and Michigan. Rivals.com national analyst Adam Gorney caught up with Madison to discuss his top group HERE. For now, the Kansas City native, seems to be leaning towards Florida State. He took visits to all his top schools in the spring and made a return trip to Tallahassee last weekend. We'll see how things play out.
- Rivals250 DE Williams Nwaneri is another high-profile target that intends to take an official visit to Missouri this summer. No date has been set. Tennessee and Oklahoma are also expected to get June officials for now as Oregon and Nebraska continue to chase.
- Reminder that four-star LB Brian Huff also has an official visit scheduled with Missouri as well on June 23rd. He also has officials set to UCF (June 2nd) and Notre Dame (June 9th). Huff will make an unofficial visit to Notre Dame this weekend, so that will be something to monitor moving forward.
- Rivals250 running back Darrion Dupree has taken two trips to Missouri since the calendar flipped to 2023. Now, it looks like the four-star talent will return to Columbia this summer for an official visit. Our Wisconsin site, BadgerBlitz.com, caught up with Dupree recently who already has an official visit locked with the Badgers the first weekend in June. He also said that Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois, and Missouri could also receive officials.
- Much like last year, it appears Missouri's big official visit weekend will be June 23rd. Expect most or all of the Tigers' commitments and top targets to be in town that weekend with a few other visits sprinkled throughout June.
PORTAL NOTES
- After visiting Missouri last weekend, Houston OL transfer Cam'Ron Johnson will make the trek out west to USC. When we caught up with Johnson last weekend, he told us he's down to those two programs. So, unless anything changes (which is always possible), we would expect the First-Team, All-AAC selection to make a decision soon after he completes his visit with the Trojans. Will the allure of reuniting with his former position coach, Brandon Jones, at Missouri win out or will the appeal of playing for a national title contending program be more desired? Time will tell.
Like we previously mentioned, Missouri is planning for Johnson to transition from his typical left guard spot to fill the role of center. A position change he told us he is very comfortable in doing as he can play any spot along the interior line and even swing out to tackle if needed. USC is recruiting him at his more familiar spot of left guard.
- Missouri has also extended an offer to App State OL transfer Troy Everett, who appeared in 10 games for the Mountaineers last season, starting the first six at center. He earned Sun Belt All-Freshmen Second Team honors. Things have been relatively quiet on the Missouri front with him so far.
- Another offensive lineman Missouri is pursuing is San Diego State transfer Josh Simmons, who played right tackle for the Aztecs this past season and started all 13 games. Simmons told us that he's heard from a lot of programs but is talking the most with Florida, Texas A&M, and Missouri. For now, the only visit he has scheduled is to Florida on May 5th.
- The Tigers are also monitoring Johnson's Houston teammate Lance Robinson, who entered the portal yesterday. Robinson was the Cougars' starting right tackle this season. The issue is that he started his career at Middle Tennessee and has already transferred once. While there are apparently no rules and some sort of waiver would be possible, on the surface Robinson would have to sit a year. If that's the case, it's going to change the market for him and Mizzou is a bit less likely to go after him. But he's on the radar and the Tigers like him as a player.
- Missouri also offered South Florida DE transfer Eddie Kelly on Thursday. We're hearing that Kelly is a backup option if Missouri doesn't land Florida State transfer Derrick McLendon, who recently took an official with the Tigers. In regards to McLendon, we're hearing it's down to Colorado and Missouri and a decision could come soon. Going back to Kelly, he has an official visit with Georgia Tech scheduled for April 27th. Once again, don't expect Missouri to get too aggressive with him until they know McLendon is off the table.
- Mizzou is likely to take two offensive linemen at this point. With some of the transfers over the last week (which were mostly unsurprising but not all necessarily expected) room has opened up to allow for that. Johnson is at the top of the list. We'd guess Everett and Simmons are probably 2A and 2B at this point. Next in line is defensive end and McLendon is the top choice. More should be known on him next week. After that tight end, safety and running back are all possibilities. We'd say TE is the top of those because we believe Missouri needs to find one. The other positions, Mizzou can take one if the right one is available but doesn't have to.
