FOOTBALL RECRUITING

Let's get a couple of quick football notes at the start.

- Missouri extended an offer to Gretna (Neb.) quarterback Zane Flores earlier this week. The three-star visited Columbia back in late January for a Jr. Day. It is intriguing that the Tigers are continuing to expand, but as we mentioned earlier this week in our Trending QB Targets article, it seems JJ Kohl is trending more towards Iowa State with Penn State, Minnesota, and Illinois making a charge.

With Flores, programs like Kansas and K-State have gotten previous visits. Oklahoma State is another place he intends to visit this month as well.

While things with Kohl may be cooling a bit, Missouri is still in a good spot with Lausanne (Tenn.) product Brock Glenn, who recently said the Tigers, Miss. State, and Oklahoma State are the three programs currently standing out.

Liberty North (Mo.) signal-caller Sam Van Dyne also holds an offer from the Tigers and remains a possibility. Currently, Missouri is the only power five offer for the three-star prospect, who recently talked with Mitchell Forde about his interest in Mizzou and overall recruiting process HERE.

- Earlier this week, we caught up with Hannibal (Mo.) running back Aneyas Williams, who became one of the recent in-state targets for Missouri in the 2024 class. The Tigers became the first SEC offer for Williams, who also holds offers from Nevada, Western Illinois, and was offered by Oregon when Mario Cristobal was head coach there.

Williams visited Missouri back on March 24th for one of their spring practices. Another 2024, in-state prospect that was also in attendance that same day was St. Pius X (Mo.) defensive end Jayshawn Ross, who also picked up an offer from the Tigers' staff.

Both join the likes of SLUH wide receiver Ryan Wingo, CBC wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan, Lee's Summit North defensive end Williams Nwaneri, and Liberty North linebacker Melvin Laster, Jr. as current in-state target for Missouri in the 2024 class.

BASKETBALL RECRUITING

In a strange turn of events, this is why most of you are reading right now. So let's get to it. First of all, Missouri has been connected publicly with 33 transfers. We have all the latest updates in our Transfer Tracker.

Over the course of the next three days, we have confirmed six visitors. They are:

Northern Iowa transfer Noah Carter. He was the first visitor scheduled, which indicates that Dennis Gates views him as a priority. We've previously said the position fit is a little strange with Kobe Brown and Ronnie DeGray already here and still on the roster, but you have to trust the coach until he gives you some reason not to. But we aren't expecting a decision out of Carter this weekend. He plans to visit Virginia Tech next week and also plans to visit Marquette, Arkansas and Florida as of the last available update, which was last weekend.

The Citadel transfer Jason Roche. This seems to be the most obvious plug into a gaping hole prospect on the list. Roche shot 40% from three-point range as a freshman. He made 110 threes. Missouri's entire team made 171 last year. Roche is still talking with Pitt, Kansas State and Fordham. He does not have any other visits set yet, but told us he might take a trip next weekend. We could see a commitment as possible this weekend.

Bellarmine transfer Dylan Penn. Penn is a combo guard, but he is definitely capable of running the point and we'd expect that would be the role Gates sees for him here, honestly most likely as a secondary point guard. He averaged five assists per game last season and had a player efficiency rating of 21.9. For reference, Kobe Brown led Missouri last year at a 21.2 PER. Someone did tell us Penn could still go back to Bellarmine, especially if they're cleared to be eligible for the NCAA Tournament this year, but it's tough to see a player opting to stay at Bellarmine if he has the legitimate opportunity to play in the SEC. So far as we know Penn doesn't have any other visits set up.

Cleveland State transfer D'Moi Hodge. Hodge was 13th in the country last season with 2.3 steals per game. He averaged 15.4 points and had an efficiency rating of 23.8. Obviously, Gates knows him well. A good comp here might be JT Tiller. Tiller was committed to Mike Anderson at UAB and became Anderson's first commitment when he took the Missouri job. At the time it was viewed as "Can a guy who was going to UAB be a player here?" The answer was a clear yes.

Cleveland State transfer Tre Gomillion. If Hodge is JT Tiller, the comp for Gomillion might be Zaire Taylor. Anderson plucked Taylor from Delaware and there were plenty of doubts there when it happened. Taylor turned into the glue guy who just did a little bit of whatever Missouri needed at the time. That's what we've read about Gomillion. He might not have been the best player, but he was the player who just gave the Vikings whatever they needed. And, again, you have to trust the coach, especially when he's familiar with a player. If Gates thinks Gomillion's game can translate to this level, who are we to say otherwise?

Former Butler signee Connor Turnbull. As we reported earlier this week, Gates was recruiting Turnbull before he was even available. Gates called Fort Zumwalt North coach Michael Uffmann the day Butler fired Lavall Jordan (that's perfectly legal; calling Turnbull himself wouldn't have been). Turnbull will visit Missouri on Sunday. Our initial read was that it was when, not if, Turnbull committed to Missouri. We still consider the Tigers the favorite, but Travis Ford and SLU were at his school at noon yesterday, basically the minute the dead period ended. Butler also went by the school yesterday and Wisconsin is coming today. When we asked Uffmann if he thought Turnbull would make a quick decision, he said he wasn't sure because he made the first decision very quickly so that might give him some pause this time around. But we wouldn't at all rule out a commitment this weekend.
