We can now way that there are 5 Mizzou seasons that stand alone from all others. Here they are. I genuinely dont know which one is the best and they probably all have arguments. I am only looking at what happened once Devine arrived. As great as Don Faurot was, every team before Devine was out shined by Big 10 and northern dominance that seemed to be the norm at that point.
1960 - Final Massey rating of 6th. Conference title. Horrific “loss” to arch rival ku with an ineligible player which caused the game to be forfeited. This team has some claim to the national title though Ole Miss was probably the best team, they never played. Win over #4 Navy in the Orange Bowl is probably the second greatest win in Mizzou history.
1969 - Final Massey rating of 7th. Conference title. Lost two games. Destroyed Michigan(Big 10 champion) in the big house. Lost a heartbreaking game to Penn State in the sugar bowl to end the year.
2007 - Ranked #6 in final Massey rating. Won division title in 6 team division. Defeated future big 10 champion Illinois. Greatest and most important win in school history over #2 ku in a game that would have redefined the rivalry. ku ultimately finished #2 in Massey beating Va Tech in the Orange Bowl. Greatest QB in school history.
2013 - ranked #9 in final Massey rating. Won division in a 7 team division. Probably the most broadly talented roster in Mizzou history with at least 15 players making the NFL or being drafted. No real signature top ten win though @uga, ok state, and a&m were very good.
2023 - Currently 10th in Massey. No division title. Immensely talented roster and the best team in the country on the LoS. Win over #7 Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl amongst the most historic in school history.
Here’s how I would rank the seasons in terms of overall glory achieved.
