Lets talk intelligently about this class. I am hopeful it will be a great building block for the future. I see people saying they really like the class and I am genuinely curious why. I don't think its a terrible class. I see that it appears we are adding some length at the wing spot which should help on defense and allow us to transfer more towards positionless basketball. I don't see a star in this class (at least on paper). I also don't see a lot of highly recruited P5 guys. There appears to be one Rivals top 150 guy (Yaya Keita #147) but he will be coming off an injury, if memory serves correct.
The players in the 2021 class so far:
Sean Durogodon
Yaya Keita
Trevon Bazille
Kaleb Brown
Anton Brookshire
Brookshire, who I personally think can be a player that helps us has a nice jumper. Concerning though are his lack of other P5 offers and lack of explosiveness. I believe his next best offer is Bradley. That's not the ideal pool we should be swimming in. I think this kid can be a definite piece to the puzzle just question how he will fare as freshman with the some of crazy athleticism he will see in the SEC.
Bazille's best offer next to ours is Montana State. Again not exactly the pool we should be swimming in. This kid seems to have tons of athleticism and I think you can afford to risk a scholly on a guy that has this type of athleticism. He definitely blocks and alters shots and can run the floor. He will likely be a buy that can find a way in CM's system.
Kaleb Brown- If memory serves correct this kid was once supposed to be a big time prospect. However his offers all fell through and he was left with mid majors and us. I think he is a skilled guy that doesn't have a true position or SEC athleticism. I'm not sure the intrigue here but maybe CM sees something that other schools don't.
Yaya Keita- seems like a solid pick up. Not sure if Keita's health will be effected or how much the injury has set back his development or effected his athleticism.
Sean Durogodon- I know very little about him but he did seem to have some decent offers and you have to like the fact that he enrolled early to get a leg up on the competition and speed of the game etc. Hopefully he can be a player.
In my opinion, if we are going to be relying on any one of these guys to be a scorer next year we are probably screwed. If Pinson leaves along with Tilmon and Dru then the scoring has to come from somewhere. I am not sure how guys like Watson and Pickett can be that guy. I am not sure that Kobe Brown could be that guy but at least he could probably step up his game and become a double digit scorer for us (but then maybe not there is a big difference between being the 4th or 5th option every night) versus being "the guy". We are going to have to find guys that can come in and score the basketball because I just don't see many options on the returning roster or the 2021 recruiting class as currently configured. I think most would agree we need transfers badly but not just warm bodies we need actual scorers.
