I’ve heard a lot on here and I believe Gabe has reported that this staff thinks that next year is the year that they really take off. Looking at the depth chart, I don’t really understand why they think that.
QB- I imagine they feel like it’ll be Horn but if what Gabe is hearing is correct that he’d be surprised if he’s playing meaningful snaps, then we will have a QB that has never played a meaningful down.
RB- Peat is listed as a senior but I think has two years left, outside of that you’ll have a ton of unproven guys here as well. I imagine the hope is Jones.
WR- This is the position that should get people excited with Lovett in his third year and Burden in his second. Manning, Miller and Luper hopefully all contributing.
TE- Huge question. Is Stephens good? Are Whisner and Hoerstkamp ready to play?
OL- This is the really scary position. Our best OL is probably gone in Foster. Our other tackle is gone in Powell. I don’t see White playing football again. Both of our guards have an extra year but are terrible so that leaves Tollison and potentially four VERY young guys. Offensive line is the hardest thing to recruit in the portal so I’m not sure I’d hold my breath for reinforcements.
DL- Outside of Williams and Jernigan (who could leave), we lose Jeffcoat, McGuire, Hopper, Coleman, Landry, Robinson and George. That’s a TON of production gone. We could be super inexperienced here with Gracial, Marshall, Wesolak, Ford and Montgomery not having much PT at all.
LB- Lose Bailey and hopefully keep Hopper. Position should be okay if he stays. Hope Wilson or Simmons is ready to play.
CB/S- Lose Manuel and possibly Carlies/KAD to the draft. I love what I’ve seen out of Carnell and hope some of the young guys keep improving. Not super worried here.
That’s a lot of question marks for a year that the staff views as the year they win 8-9 ball games. Thoughts?
