I am only doing 5 because I am half as hard working at Gabe.
1. Gabe's infatuation with Tiger Woods winning another major is borderline unhealthy. Maybe it is the Royals suck and it is football offseason, but the guy was going full HAM on sunday about Tiger being in contention, in the lead, then falling off while his playing mate went on to Win. Gabe posted several Tiger images, emoticons, etc. A lot of Mizzou fans thought it was something Mizzou related, but in the end, it turned out that Gabe was super excited to watch his Master Putter again. Hey, I enjoyed watching Tiger in his prime, but now, he's just another player. When Tiger came on the tour, there were a few big drivers, but for the most part he could out hit everyone, not just with his driver, the guy could hit his 3wood over 300 yards and would hit a 7 iron over 200 yards. Now, these younger kids on the tour are all doing that. Jordan Spieth averages 300 yards driving the ball and he is tied for 76th on the tour. Tiger averages 304.7 and is 34th. Molinari (Open winner) averages 301 and is 53rd. So Tiger's dominance has been negatively impacted by the Tour catching up and passing him on distance.
2. TRUMP uses ALL CAPS to yell at Iran on Twitter. I don't think it will happen yet, but eventually an armed conflict will be started by tweets. I honestly like the insults better than the all caps approach. Another issue going into 2020 election is the Tweeners. There are many people who despise Trump the person, but love lower taxes, hate current trade deals, immigration policy, etc. They don't want to support the guy, but they don't want Dem SCOTUS Justices, etc. There are also some people who don't like Trump, but hate free trade deals. There are also people who probably vote Dem, but are not inline with the Far Left, they don't like the direction of attacking speech, they don't like socialism. This is the 2020 group that will decide POTUS. They are being attacked an alienated by both sides. The first side to reach out to them will win (Reach out does not equal Shame them). There is a culture of fear that is suffocating right now. The eventual response is either anger or despair.
3. The Duck Boat catastrophe has had me re-evaluating my situation with my kids. My wife and I and our family rode one of those boats just over 2 weeks ago and both of us went over what we would do if in that situation. I think there were many failures. BUT, one thing for sure is that some of those who died did not know how to swim. This is an easy fixable problem. There should be no excuse to not knowing how to swim if you are physically able to do so. First off, it is such an important life skill. If you don't teach your kids how to swim, you failed that part of parenting. My two older sons can swim. My 2 year old starts lessons this week. Swimming lessons should be affordable and accessible to everyone. I do think there is a serious problem where specific minorities were disadvantaged in learning swimming many years ago. For example, they were not allowed access to pools in many areas. There should be pools in many neighborhoods with affordable lessons.
4. IOT vulnerability. While IOT continues to expand and take over our life, we have not found adequate ways to protect it. You see, we live in a world where we protect data transmissions via encryption. This was always fine because computers were never fast enough to decrypt. Well that is changing with Quantum computing. In less than half a decade, quantum computing will become more and more common and NO data transfers in IOT will be protectable. I have been researching ways to resolve this for companies to invest in, but nothing has become adopted and the standards bodies are moving at a snail's pace. This is actually probably the #1 security issue for the next presidential term.
5. There needs to be a statute of limitations (SOL) on Tweets/Social Media posts. Right now, young kids are being crucified for posts they made as 13, 14, and 15 year olds. I grew up in NWMO. Everyone said inappropriate things when they were young kids. They are fortunate that nothing was recorded or etched in stone. I propose that if it is more than 7.5 years ago, then it can only be used to corroborate if a new similar post has been made. It cannot be used for original proclamation. Maybe the SOL should be dependent on age or power. For example, a CEO has a longer statute of limitations than a 25 year old. Another caveat would be that nothing can be exposed from a post if the person who made the post was under 16 years old at the time.
Things I am watching this week: Nothing, summer sucks for watching. I am currently finishing up Shoe Dog, the book about Phil Knight. I am surprised that Knight was on the verge of bankruptcy pretty much every year for his first 15 years of Nike (Blue Ribbon). And he lived on a salary of $18K per year for that time.
I am looking for recs for next book.
