Came here to see the train wreck, I am not disappointed.
1) This is what happens when the team decides to mail it in. High level programs are high level because they execute at a high level every game. Look at Georgia and Wisconsin to see high level teams and what happens when they mail it in. Mizzou is a mid-level program, there is no room for error. Guess the players found that out (again) this week.
2a) I agree with those criticizing the coaching on offense. But then again, I am not sure what would have worked. The o-line was blown up. The running backs were not explosive. The QB could run... but the passing game was way off. I don't believe it was the scheme, I believe it was execution. Vandy wanted to 100% more than we did.
2b) Maybe missing Cale Garrett is going to hurt worse than we thought. We held them to 21, that's not great but not good either. Watching the Georgia game right now, and they are running like crazy... we better find a way to stop a running game soon or that is going to cause us to lose, and lose big against the better teams. Like the offense, everyone seemed slow today.
3) If you're honest with yourself, didn't you smell something like this coming? I am not going to pretend that I predicted a loss, but it felt odd going into Vandy. Something was not right. Maybe it's deja vue... we've been there too many times before.
4) Those calling for Odom's head... I understand the frustration, but it's not going to happen. Teams get beat. Odom is not a bad coach and the staff is solid. He has the buy in of the players and the AD. And there are many of us out here in the fan world who believe in what he is doing. If he wins 6 or more per year, he is our head coach.
5) Those who want off the bus, the door is open. This is a great time to get off. I am not saying we can't be critical, and I am not saying that we need to pump sunshine. But some on here are just getting stupid. As one poster said earlier tonight, it's an amazing business plan that charges you $10/month to have the right to bitch about a team and coaching staff... and it's even more amazing that people fall for it.
6) What do I expect going forward? We should beat Kentucky, Arkansas and Tennessee. Georgia is beatable if we can stop the run, but we need to execute at that high level. Florida.... we should lose, but who knows. There is something otherworldly going on with those games. Will we win the east? No. And nobody I know believed we would at the start of the season.
That's all I got right now... feeling too empty to care too much tonight. I want to be angry... but can't anymore. I am sure the coaches know "what happened" and I hope they get it "fixed" before they get home tonight. Looking forward to next Saturday...
Now, flame away!
