If you went to MU within the last 50 years, there’s a good chance you remember the AEPi guys that stand on every street corner in Columbia with those tin cans asking for donations for cancer research. The philanthropy is called Rock-A-Thon and the fraternity is conducting it as we speak. It is the largest fraternity philanthropy in the nation. The boys raised $102,000 for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (with a strong dedication to Gary Pinkel) in 2017 and $132,000 in 2015. This thing is HUGE and they work their tails off. Pinkel spoke at the kickoff gala last month in St. Louis at Forrest Park and visited the boys today to show encouragement. He’s so impressed.
There is a stage set up on Broadway where the dedicated “rocker” sits in a rocking chair for 63 straight hours. The rocker is elected by the brotherhood as someone whose life has been severely affected by cancer and who is the most passionate for the cause. The brothers raise money in his honor. This year’s rocker is Edan Goldfarb- a senior whose high school best friend passed away from the horrid disease. This year's focus is Pancreatic Cancer.
The boys need your help. They are looking to break their own record (which broke the national record) of $132,000. It ends tomorrow night (Saturday) at 9:30 PM. Click on the link to donate -- http://www.crowdrise.com/mizzourockathon -- or help them by donating to @mizzourockathon on the Venmo app or $mizzourockathon on CashApp.
Every donation counts! Spread the word! These kids are inspirations to us all. With all the negative stigma associated with fraternities nowadays, it’s a true blessing that there are still brotherhoods like this that exist and help change the world.
Here is an interview Frank Cusumano did with HCGP that is very interesting and spotlights the cause even more.
