I've been watching Harrison Van Dyne, a senior at Blue Valley HS (KS) this fall. Interesting WR prospect. 6'5", 185 pounds. He's a long strider with deceptive speed. Tremendous hands and always catches the ball away from his body. He's having a heck of a senior season. He reminds me of L'Damian Washington.

Nebraska, Kansas and Kansas State are all starting to bird dog him. I think he's going to get lots of attention as his senior season winds down. Hopefully, he's on our radar.

I don't know. A 6'5" receiver with range and good hands should be able to find a spot on the roster.
I get what you are saying...but you can only sign so many recievers or any position group for that matter.

It is easy for us to say OFFER to every guy that his highly rated or looks good on film.

Balancing the roster and the classes is hard work...as is identifying and then signing just the right players for your team.

Like GP always used to say...WINNING in college football is damn hard.

If it was easy...everybody would do it...

I can appreciate your points. Heck managing a 100+ roster across 4 years and, what, 18 or so unique positions has to be a major headache.

But if this kid has size and the staff believes he can contribute at a high level then there are ways to "manage" the roster to make it work.

Isn't that one of the things that some folks are constantly complaining about is the lack of "transfers"?

That's all I'm saying.

He doesn't remind you of L'Damian Washington if he catches the ball with his hands.

LOL. I meant his physical stature and his deceptive speed.

Coach Hill spends plenty of time at BVHS. I'm quite sure the staff is watching. Hey, if they can get higher rated kids who they think have a better upside, go for it. This is just a kid who is kind of a late bloomer and who is drawing a lot of attention as a senior. And personally, I like having at least one tall WR who can go up and high point a ball over a smaller DB.

Good points all...and if they like this guy enough they will "manage the roster" as you say...

Are these preferred walk-on pokings or are these offers?

Thanks for the info!

I think his only solid offer right now is from Stec. However, he's getting invitations to visit a LOT of legit programs. And Kansas.

I'm sure schools would prefer him as a PWO, but once the first big offer hits the table, I suspect more will follow. You can't coach 6'5".

Thank you, kind sir. I appreciate your input.

i do too and we never use him (Justin Smith)

He catches the ball effortlessly. His double moves are lethal. I saw some Braylon Edwards/Jordy Nelson.

An example of that might be found in GP's last 4 recruiting classes. He signed WR of 1-5-5-4 back then and OL in the same years of 2-5-3-4. Management there has us sorely under maned at OLine and more WR that we will ever use with out being hit by tornado. We already have comments from who we all think of 3 highly regarded WRs with Thomas in works. Yes, the kid here looks good, but also have only 4 OLmen commits for the current class and we have whiffed on two that was said were our top priorities. If we over sign in any class I would prefer it to be with OL/DL types. They seem to be the most difficult to fine.

We are loaded at WR...why would we want this young man?

I do like this kid. When he gets striding he really gets going. I could see him running under some long balls.

Good post. The only thing I'd mention is the staff may be aware of WR's who will be leaving. But even then, it would have to be several leaving because as you point out, we're already at 3 or 4 at this position.

Personally, I think Mizzou is going to be in a position this year to sign 30+, if they choose. Assuming there's no post-commitment from what's shaping up to be a decent amount of attrition, from the sound of things.

I wish the solution were as easy as "insert tall receiver here."

I thought the SECs Houston Nutt(sp) rule limited teams to 28 LOI. Is there away around it, has it changed? I'm actually just asking

I thought it was just relative to the total scholarship count -- I could be wrong, but Tennessee's first couple classes under Butch, IIRC, were 30+.

Strong punctuation game here.

The tough part is going to be getting 30 SEC quality players to say yes.

Tigers need to get him. Also, love his speed and effort on defense...stopping two potential scorers from behind. I really like the kid. The way he acts after he scores tells a lot about him: winner.
