read today were there are negotiations to base rights $$$ on tv ratings. Trying to appease fsu, clemson and miami. another bad sign. If they do this, how long before georgia, ohio st, bama, texas demand same…creating even bigger gaps within conferences wont help.

on a silmilar note, this one angers folks, but the current model wont work ling term. Mizzou loses 41 mill….ohio st lost 37 mill..i saw texas was 4 mill in the black…but now add in another 20 mill or so going to athletes..how long do schools keep doling $$$ out to cover it?

The ACC is trying to appease Clemson, Florida State and Miami so those schools don’t leave and the ACC can survive.

No one is leaving the SEC.

The situations couldn’t be more different.
you missed my point..you are correct, they are appeassing them, but if 3 schools can leverage that, you dont think bigger schools in bigger confs will do the same? please, $$$$, its all about the $$$$…hopefully the sec commish can stay strong when it comes up, yea, nobody is leaving but that dont mean they wont be trying once someone else sets the bar

I don't really think they will as we have a much better TV deal then the ACC and our top end schools have more than enough revenues to manage their AD's without nearly as many problems as the ACC schools given disparity in the starting point.

People whose minds race to point out a "potential negative" that isn't based in reality alway amaze me. How do y'all make it through the day?

i am amazed by people that just cant have a conversation about interesting topics…seems to freak em out..not sure how they dont have issues with all that head in the sand fingers in the ears stuff…thoughts? ohhh gross..😂

The SEC doesn’t need Texas so they can’t dictate to the conference, so again you worrying about them blowing up the SEC is moot.

You apparently do not undedstand the way Texas does things. They will try to recruit OU, Georgia, Bama, Tenn and Florida telling them they desrve more than others in the conference. With the growing need for more revenue in order to buy players it is certainly a possibility of many different outcomes as Schools, conferences and College football ingeneral try to figure out how to survive for some and thrive for others.

SEC understands that a strong conference has equal distributions.

BIG does as well, at least long term. But Jr membership puts some of the new programs at a disadvantage in the short term.

Everyone else is just pining to join those 2, except ND.

Texas isn’t in the SWC or Big 12.

Both of those conferences existed because Texas agreed to be in them only if everything was slanted in their favor.

Texas received no such deal when entering the SEC.

My statement was about going forward with the paying of players and the need for every team to raise revenue $20mil plus just to overcome the cost of revenue sharing with the players. If that additional revenue does not come easily from donors then teams will seek other avenues to overcome that burden. I think the SEC conference will balk at such a thought that 6-8 teams will get more revenue than the rest. But we are certainly in uncharted waters as as far as NIL and revenue sharing goes. So personally I would rule nothing out.

Anything is possible, but it has just never been that way in the SEC and the top 6-8 teams already have enough to absorb the $20 million so I just don't see it happening--remember, if the new deal gets approved (i.e. revenue sharing for players or the $20 million--outside collectives essentially go away because all NIL deals have to be approved by either the NCAA or an outside aribrater)--so those supporting NIL through outside collectives cand redirect their money to the school.

1) teXas has a well earned reputation of ruining everything it touches in the name of self-serving greed. They are the parasite that consumes the host.

2) The state of college athletics is concerning on many fronts, and one has to worry about where the money to run these programs is going to come from. Will the bigger/stronger/perceived to be more important brands demand more than their counterparts to survive? They might. The ACC is showing it. The B12 is talking about it. The B10 has junior partners as a "buy in" to the B10 and their network... once you are ok with that inequality you don't have to go far to justify more.

3) The SEC is one of the strongest brands in college athletics. The idea that someone could come in and break that apart seems to be questionable at best. BUT, one needs to keep a watchful eye just to be prepared... after all, we invited teXas into the house with us and as already stated, they are a known homewrecker.

4) Who knows where all this is headed? Is the TV money (which drives all this) sustainable? Can the schools keep incurring loses like they are? Can they absorb the pay for play model and remain a "collegiate athletic department?" What happens to all the other sports and the student athletes there when all the money is focused on 2 or 3 sports?

There are a lot of questions that need to be pushed front and center if we are being honest. The can is being kicked down the road for now... but sooner or later there will come a time when they have to have answers... this is not the Federal Govt after all. From what I see, the people making money at it right now are just trying to put enough duct tape on it to hold it together, and enough WD-40 to keep if moving forward until they can get out. Let someone else deal with the mess.

And in the end, the ones who will suffer will be the student athletes, and the fans. Just like it always happens.

Laissez les bons temps rouler!!! But just remember, Ash Wednesday and Lent are coming....

it was in the papers..and on here..about a month ago.

That dynamic is part of why he and other UM System leaders saw value in pumping more than $40 million into the athletic department during fiscal year 2024 as direct support and internal loans.
